The Weeknd Pays Homage to MF DOOM With New Tour Mask

With a towering Hajime Sorayama statue hovering in the backdrop for the second leg of his tour, The Weeknd has been spotted with a silver metallic mask similar to the one worn by the late British-American rapper MF DOOM. Abel has long been a fan of Doom and the mask seems to be intended to directly pay homage to the artist.

The Weeknd is seen retweeting Twitter posts that point out the comparison, some of which call him “MF Abel.” In addition to the Sorayama sculpture which features glow-up eyes, the stage design in Portugal featured a massive photorealistic moon, as seen in the first leg of his tour, and a liquid metal mic stand that continues The Weeknd’s vision of a chrome metropolis.
