The War on Drugs have announced the return of their annual A Drugcember to Remember benefit concert series. The shows will take place from December 19-21 at the band’s favorite hometown club: Johnny Brenda’s in Philadelphia. Proceeds from the gigs will benefit the Fund for the School District of Philadelphia. Tickets go on sale Friday (December 2): Head here for the first show, here for the second, and here for the third.
Additional funds will be raised with an auction hosted by Julien’s Auctions in January. Auction items will include a pair of tickets to any headline show from the War on Drugs for the next five years, signed memorabilia from Philadelphia professional sports teams, signed instruments from the War on Drugs, and more. Each concert will also feature an in-person live raffle with a special selection of curated prizes.
The War on Drugs started A Drugcember to Remember back in 2018, but had to pause the event for the past two years due to COVID-19. “There’s no better way to wrap up a long year on the road than with three shows at our favorite club, Johnny Brenda’s in Philadelphia,” bandleader Adam Granduciel said in a press release. He continued:
Kathy Rubino, vice president of development for the Fund for the School District of Philadelphia, added: “We are incredibly grateful for the War on Drugs’ ongoing commitment to supporting Philadelphia’s public school children. The example they set and generosity they inspire is uplifting to students across our great city.”
The War on Drugs released their most recent studio album, I Don’t Live Here Anymore, last year. They recently received a Best Rock Song Grammy nomination for their song “Harmonia’s Dream.”
