The late Tobe Hooper’s The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is back in theaters to celebrate its 50th anniversary.
The 1974 film returns to the silver screen as a restored 4K edition on the same day the original was released. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is showing at 900 theaters with Regal, Cinemark, Cineplex, Marcus, Harkins and all Alamo Drafthouse locations, as well the Music Box Theatre’s 700-seat auditorium, and will play through Halloween until the first weekend of November.
Hooper’s classic horror title starred Marilyn Burns, Paul A. Partain, Allen Danziger, William Vail and Teri McMinn as a group of young friends who are terrorized by a family of cannibals (Edwin Neal, John Dugan and Gunnar Hansen) while on a trip to a homestead. Although a majority of the plot is fictional (despite the initial marketing as film based on a true story), some details and the character of Leatherface were loosely inspired by Ed Gein, also known as the Butcher of Plainfield.
