With its recent April 5 release, The Super Mario Bros. Movie has already smashed box office records to become the highest-grossing video game film.
Thus far, the video game film has grossed $204.6 million USD domestically and $377 million USD globally, which passes Sonic the Hedgehog 2, which previously held the record for the highest video game movie opening weekend with $141 million USD. The celebrated Nintendo title comes to life with the voices of Chris Pratt, Charlie Day, Anya Taylor-Joy, Jack Black, Keegan-Michael Key, Seth Rogen and more.
Perhaps the key to the movie’s success thus far is its attraction for a wide array of ages – including families and longtime lovers of the video game characters. In case you missed it, check out the new movie, which is out now in theaters worldwide.
