The Obsessed announce new album Gilded Sorrow and Fall 2023 UK/European tour

The Obsessed announce new album Gilded Sorrow and Fall 2023 UK/European tour

The Obsessed have announced their fifth studio album, Gilded Sorrow, set to arrive February 16th via Ripple Music.

The Scott “Wino” Weinrich-fronted doom band also announced a Fall 2023 UK/European tour. The trek kicks off on September 28th in Mannheim, Germany, and runs through an appearance at Desertfest Belgium on October 22nd in Antwerp. The Obsessed will share the bill with fellow US doomsters Eyehategod on a leg of European dates in the middle of the run before reuniting with their NOLA counterparts at Desertfest Belgium. Pick up tickets via Viagogo.

The announcement of Gilded Sorrow comes after a long wait following The Obsessed’s 2017 comeback album, Sacred. That said, Wino has kept busy in other bands and solo endeavors, including extensive touring and festival gigs — some with The Obsessed. The new album will capture the band’s current live iteration featuring second axeman Jason Taylor.

“Adding Jason Taylor as second guitarist was one of the best decisions I’ve made,” commented Wino, “because he’s a virtuoso guitar player and I must say he contributed quite a bit of good stuff to this record.”

On the album itself, Wino added: “I think it’s the heaviest thing I’ve ever done. Heavy in a sense as not just sludge heavy, but well-rounded. And it sounds fantastic. Everything I do with Frank Marchand gets better and better. He knows what the fuck he’s doing.”

The first single from Gilded Sorrow “will be revealed soon” according to the album announcement. In the meantime, you can pre-order the album on CD and vinyl via Ripple Music’s online store and check out the cover art and see The Obsessed’s upcoming UK/European tour dates below. Get tickets here.
