Apple TV+ has dropped off the trailer for its upcoming historical drama series, The New Look, which follows designer Christian Dior’s rise to prominence — in the midst of the World War II Nazi occupation of Paris.
The 10-episode series sees Emmy-winning actor Ben Mendelsohn portray Dior, who established his namesake fashion house during the tumultuous time period and began to coin the “new look,” or what is now considered to be contemporary fashion. The show chronicles the famed designer’s evolution, while in competition with his starry peers: Pierre Balmain (Thomas Poitevin), Cristóbal Balenciaga (Nuno Lopes) and, most notably, Coco Chanel (Juliette Binoche).
“As Dior rises to prominence with his groundbreaking, iconic imprint of beauty and influence, Chanel’s reign as the world’s most famous fashion designer is put into jeopardy,” the official synopsis reads.
The remaining cast members include Glenn Close as Harper’s Bazaar editor-in-chief Carmel Snow, Maisie Williams as Catherine Dior, John Malkovich as French designer Lucien Lelong, Emily Mortimer as Elsa Lombardi and Claes Bang as Spatz.
The New Look is slated to premiere on February 14 via Apple TV+. The show will launch with its first three episodes, followed by one new episode every Wednesday through April 3. Watch the official trailer above.
