The New Band-Sanctioned Led Zeppelin Documentary Is Complete

The New Band-Sanctioned Led Zeppelin Documentary Is Complete

Director Bernard MacMahon has shared the title of his highly-anticipated and now completed Led Zeppelin documentary, Becoming Led Zeppelin.

Becoming Led Zeppelin is a film that no one thought could be made,” MacMahon said in a statement. “The band’s meteoric rise to stardom was swift and virtually undocumented. Through an intense search across the globe and years of restoration of the visual and audio archive found, this story is finally able to be told.”

The feature documentary, which was first announced in 2019, will be the first film to include the band’s participation, unlike the 1976 documentary, The Song Remains the Same, which largely utilized concert footage from a slew of Madison Square Garden performances in 1973. Becoming Led Zeppelin will feature interviews with the three surviving members of the band — Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones — as well as archival interviews with late drummer John Bonham, who died in 1980, and uncovered photographs and videos.

MacMahon previously helmed the 2017 docuseries American Epic, which followed the roots-music movement in the 1920s. Following Becoming Led Zeppelin‘s initial announcement in 2019, Page revered MacMahon’s work in a statement, saying, “When I saw everything Bernard had done both visually and sonically on the remarkable achievement that is American Epic, I knew he would be qualified to tell our story.”

A release date for Becoming Led Zeppelin has not yet been disclosed.

Elsewhere, Drake has confirmed that Certified Lover Boy is finally complete.
