Readers of Shuichi Shigeno‘s Initial D sequel MF Ghost will have to wait a little longer for the next volume of the manga. Announced on this year’s 51st issue of Kodansha’s Weekly Young Magazine, MF Ghost will be going on an indefinite hiatus due to Shigeno’s poor health.
This sort of transparency is becoming more common amongst the bigger studios and mangaka as fans continue to speak out on the harsh working conditions the artists put themselves through — encouraging them to take their time rather than fall ill. This work culture was especially made apparent last year with the death of Berserk‘s Kentaro Miura. This has even led Yoshihiro Togashi of Hunter x Hunter to hire additional staff due to his declining health from long hours of work.
Fans suspect that MF Ghost will pick back up in early 2023.
