The Mercedez-Benz G-Wagon Is Going Electric

The Mercedez-Benz G-Wagon Is Going Electric

Back in 2019, the head of Mercedes Ola Källenius announced a commitment for a zero-emissions version of the G-Class line. Those promises have now materialized as parent Daimler AG files paperwork for the names “EQG580” and “EQG560”.

A hybrid version of the Mercedes-Benz luxury SUV will arrive first in the winter of 2022, followed by fully electric models in 2024 under the Mercedes-EQ brand. The EQG-Wagons are expected to be revealed as concept cars at the IAA Mobility 2021 motor show in Munich this September. Hybrid production models are expected to go on sale with an estimated starting price slightly above the $132,800 USD G550, while the EQ560 and EQG580 models should be closer to the $157,500 USD starting price of the AMG G63.

Prior to the introduction of the EQG line, the car tuners at Kreisel have been creating modified All-Electric G-Class vehicles since 2017.

In case you missed it, the Marsien is a futuristic rally-inspired Porsche 992 Turbo S.
