The Menendez Brothers Tell Their Story For the First Time in 30 Years in New Netflix Documentary

The Menendez Brothers Tell Their Story For the First Time in 30 Years in New Netflix Documentary

Netflix has unveiled the official trailer of The Menendez Brothers, an upcoming true crime documentary that will hear Lyle and Erik Menendez tell their side of their infamous criminal case for the first time in 30 years.

Calling straight from Donovan Correctional Facility, the brothers will revisit the infamous night they murdered their parents, Kitty and José Menendez, in 1989. The Menendez Brothers will feature extensive audio interviews from both Lyle and Erik, the lawyers involved in the trial, journalists who covered the case, jurors, family and “other informed observers” who will provide “new insight and a fresh perspective” on the divisive case. The trailer hears those involved touch on the actual trial, the evidence and the effect of modern-day social media as the new generation starts a movement to free the brothers.

While Lyle and Erik were convicted of murdering their parents in 1996, they have continuously claimed that they performed the act out of fear of their father José after they threatened to expose him of sexually assaulting, physically and emotionally abusing the brothers. The prosecution, however, argued that they were after their multi-million dollar inheritance, noting that the brothers purchased big-ticket items in the months following the murders. They were sentenced to life without the possibility of parole.

The documentary trailer arrives shortly after the premiere of Ryan Murphy and Netflix’s Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, which has mostly received negative reviews.

Watch the trailer above. The Menendez Brothers premieres October 7 on Netflix.
