‘The Last of Us’ Surpasses ‘House of the Dragon’ as HBO’s Top Series

'The Last of Us' Surpasses 'House of the Dragon' as HBO's Top Series

The Last of Us is proving to be HBO‘s most successful series, surpassing George R.R. Martin‘s Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon.

The Hollywood Reporter noted that this past weekend’s finale of The Last of Us garnered an average of 8.2 million viewers across all HBO platforms. It saw a slight increase from the previous week’s 8.1 million views as well as an opening-night high for the nine-episode season. Although The Last of Us only had six episodes, the first six episodes have averaged 30.4 million viewers since January 15. The debut episode also closed in on 40 million viewers.

If the final three episodes of the nine-episode season continue on the trajectory, The Last of Us is set to be bigger than House of the Dragon. This past weekend’s finale saw the show’s viewers increase 74.5% higher than the 4.7 million viewers who watched the series debut. Cumulatively, The Last of Us has an audience of 30.4 million viewers, the biggest of any HBO show since the Game of Thrones final season which averaged 44 million viewers.
