The British marque Jaguar makes some of the wildest-looking concept cars there has ever been, from the James Bond Spectre C-X75 to the very first Vision Gran Turismo Coupé and its more menacing sibling the SV version, but now Jaguar has unveiled its latest masterpiece, the all-electric Vision Gran Turismo Roadster.
This third iteration of the familiar design does more than just take its top off, as it combines with the racing series’ most immersive and expansive platform to date — Gran Turismo 7 — to create an electric hypercar like no other. Speaking on the project, Oliver Cattell-Ford, Exterior Designer, Jaguar Advanced Design said: “As a car designer, being part of the team that has delivered three virtual cars for the Gran Turismo series has been a dream project. Since the reveal of the Vision GT Coupé in 2019 and Vision GT SV in 2020, we wanted to curate the perfect way to present the full line-up of the three cars together when we revealed the Roadster — Gran Turismo 7 is the perfect way to do it. The visual effect is dramatic and wouldn’t look out of place on any track or circuit around the world, from the streets of night-time Tokyo to California’s Laguna Seca raceway.”
Of course, this car has also been built in real life like the other two that came before it — more on how that works can be found in HYPEBEAST’s interview with Cattell-Ford. IRL or in the game, the Roadster packs three motors that combine to offer 1,020 PS (750kW) and instant max torque of 1,200 Nm, which result in a 0-60 MPH time of under two seconds and speeds in excess of 200 MPH.
There are also various touches around the car that remind us of Jaguar’s racing heritage. For example, the vintage green hue is reminiscent of old D-Type and E-Type Jags, while the fin on the rear very much draws from the former. Roundels on the hood also nod to vintage race cars, while the Jaguar monogram pattern has been etched into the fin in the form of the Union Jack flag and illuminated in LEDs to act as the brake light. Iconic roundel lights adorn the front grille, while hand-crafted leather straps on the front fenders complete the exterior’s retro touches.
As for the interior, everything is intricately and precisely considered for the best driving experience possible, made from lightweight and luxurious materials that glisten under the open cockpit of the Roadster. Center of gravity is low thanks to batteries in the floor, weight distribution is practically the esteemed 50:50 ratio, and all around you’ll find plenty of weight-saving carbon fiber which all comes together to make the car handle just as well as it accelerates.
Take a look at the car above, and stay tuned for more information about it on HYPEBEAST and HYPEBEAST Car Club. The Jaguar Vision Gran Turismo Roadster, Vision Gran Turismo Coupé, and Vision Gran Turismo SV is be available for players in Gran Turismo 7 now on PS4 and PS5.
In other news, the Ford Mustang convertible is now available in the United Kingdom.
