WaterTower Music has announced the release of “Worlds Collide’ and “Run,” the first music to be made available from Warner Bros. Pictures’ upcoming “The Flash” film starring Ezra Miller, Michael Keaton, Sasha Callee and Ben Affleck.
Two-time Grammy and Emmy-nominated composer Benjamin Wallfisch (“IT,” “Blade Runner 2049,” “Mortal Kombat,” “The Invisible Man”) is creator of the film’s score which includes both tracks.
“Run” was the very first music Wallfisch wrote for the film just over three years ago in mid-2020. At the time, the script was still being developed and inspired by concepts he and director Andy Muschietti discussed, he came up with “Run” to represent “Barry’s crisis after losing his mother”. He adds that the track boasts staccato strings that are “on the edge of being impossible to perform because of their sheer speed.”
With “Worlds Collide” which appears at the climax of the movie, Wallfisch says the aim was to bring together DC eras past and present. It went through over 50 iterations to get it right:
“Andy’s incredibly creative ideas meant adjusting the music and musicians in real time. The track is built on a chord progression where the outer voices of the chords move towards each other, almost pulled together by a powerful gravitational force, whilst always building in intensity.
At the apex, there’s about 17 layers of orchestra playing together – probably over 1000 musicians! It was one of those moments where we had to ‘go big or go home’ to match the magnitude of what fans will see on screen!”
Muschietti helms the film which is scheduled for release in cinemas in North America on June 16th – the same day the soundtrack goes on sale.
