eBay Motors‘ documentary, The Build, is a captivating 22-minute journey into the heart of Canadian car culture, fostered by the people dedicated to seeing the scene grow. The documentary follows renowned Japanese car builder and RAUH-Welt BEGRIFF (RWB) owner, Akira Nakai, who in August last year, took on his first commissioned 997 project outside Japan, customizing a special Porsche 911 for a client in Canada with his signature wide-body RWB kit and accessories sourced from eBay Motors, including camber plates, carbon fiber components, and an Android Auto stereo unit.
Going beyond just showcasing a car and also diving into the world of passionate customization, the story also follows Mark – owner of Driven Aftermarket Car Show – presented by eBay Motors, who seeks to create a show-stopping ride. His chosen canvas? A Porsche 911 destined for a groundbreaking transformation by the hands of Akira Nakai, revered for his radical vision and globally acclaimed RWB Porsches.
Nakai is more than just a master builder. He’s an enigma wrapped in a wide-body kit. Self-taught and unconventional, he’s known for his bold designs and personalized touches. His nomadic lifestyle and solitary build process further solidify his legendary status. The Build captures the awe-inspiring process of Nakai building his first 997 RWB built outside of his homeland of Japan, thanks to unprecedented access granted by Mark and Driven, at the Nuo Auto shop where the actual build took place. Witness the meticulous craftsmanship and attention to detail that are hallmarks of his creations.
The documentary then culminates in the electrifying unveiling of the 997 RWB at the Regina Driven Show. Crowds erupt for a glimpse of automotive history in the making. This pivotal moment marks the end of the 2023 tour. Retrospectively, the special 977 RWB was also built in Saskatoon just days before it had to get to Regina for that show, and was driven due to how wide it was. After the reveal, Mark kickstarted the visual design for this car project, showcasing a matte black wrap as well as signature “RWB” branding as a nod to eBay as the Driven 2024 tour’s national sponsor. Additionally, the fully transformed Porsche 911 will be available for all to see as of May of 2024, coast to coast and online at ebay.ca/driven. Follow the link for full tour details and schedule.
The Build transcends the spectacle of the build itself. It delves into the rich tapestry of Canadian car culture which includes major players such as Mark, Nuo Auto shop and more – it’s a haven of diversity, ingenuity, and unwavering passion for customization. It shines a light on individuals pushing boundaries and the communities that celebrate their shared love for cars.
