It looks as if everybody on the red carpet at the 2022 BRIT Awards had recently attended a screening of “The Matrix Resurrections.” Apparently, the sartorial order of the day was “undisputedly cool,” with attendees taking us into the future by swanning the carpet in black cutouts, structural shapes, ankle-sweeping coats, and a whole lot of leather.
BRIT Award winner Little Simz led the vanguard in an all-black ensemble layered with a pop of neon green, courtesy of Prada. She completed the look with some red-tinted sunglasses that Trinity would no doubt approve of. Behind her came Ashley Roberts in a standout black halter-neck Mônot gown with leather gloves — this time fusing “The Matrix” with the late, great Thierry Mugler. It was clear to see Mugler’s influence across the carpet with stylists fusing eroticism and futurism through strong architectural lines and body-caressing fabrics. Lola Young, Maya Jama, and Anne-Marie continued to fuel the trend with daring cuts and mixed textures. Abby Roberts added a cyber-princess touch to her all-black sheer outfit, with loose pink waves and otherworldly eye makeup.
It wasn’t just the women who got the futuristic goth memo, either. KSI elevated a grey suit with a black harness, purple leather gloves, and bold utility boots. Dave followed the theme sporting a suit with a more refined black harness.
