The BMW iX’s Bowers & Wilkins Speakers Have Real Diamonds in Them

The BMW iX’s Bowers & Wilkins Speakers Have Real Diamonds in Them

Back in March, the German marque BMW unveiled the iX — simply put, its first-ever all-electric SUV — and now we’re learning a bit more about some of the tech that’s gone into the car, more specifically, its Bowers & Wilkins speakers that feature real diamonds in them.

Inside the car’s cabin are two Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Dome tweeters which are made using real diamonds to increase the speaker’s rigidity. As a result, the tweeters are as un-flexible as possible, meaning the final sound includes very little rattle that results in the clearest audio around. Additionally, Bowers & Wilkins’ “Nautilus Swirls” technology has also been included to make unwanted sound waves coming from the rear of the unit disappear for less distortion.

Of course, these are not the only speakers to feature in the iX. You’ll also find three Aluminum Dome tweeters, five Aramid Fiber midrange speakers placed in the upper-most areas of the interior, eight more speakers in the front and rear headrests that can be personalized to your preference, four bass speakers and 4D shakers that are placed around the cabin for the optimum listening experience.

Altogether, the speakers come together to create an experience akin to being in a live recording studio — which is apt, considering these speakers are the same as those found in the Abbey Road Studios. The result should be something first-class for a car, which will only be accentuated because of the car being electric, thus incredibly quiet.
