After his name first graced the big screen in the The Blind Side, the real story of Michael Oher is told in the new documentary Blindsided, which has just debuted its first trailer ahead of its November 16th premiere.
When The Blind Side first premiered in 2009, it earned more than $300 million at the box office, nabbed Sandra Bullock an Oscar, and became one of history’s most successful sports films. Its plot centered around Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy, a wealthy couple who adopt a foster child and help him become an NFL champion. It claimed to be based on a true story, one with an undoubtedly happy ending.
Then, in August 2023, Michael Oher filed a lawsuit against the Tuohys saying they actually never adopted him. Instead, he claimed his new “parents” created a conservatorship that granted them legal authority to make business deals in his name, subsequently raking in millions from the success of The Blind Side while Oher got nothing. (The Tuohys also claimed Oher had threatened to go public with his claims unless they paid him $15 million.)

With that conservatorship now terminated, Blindsided examines how the Tuohys constructed a false narrative that ended up depicting Oher as a “completely different person.” The documentary compiles interviews with former teammates, foster siblings, and others familiar with the real Michael Oher, while Quinton Aaron, the actor who played him in The Blind Side, also shares his perspective on how Oher was portrayed.
Blindsided premieres on Max tomorrow, November 16th. See the trailer below.
