DC Comics announced on Friday that The Batman star Paul Dano is writing a comic book based on his infamous villain character’s origins, titled Riddler: Year One.
The comic label took to social media to announce the forthcoming book, revealing that it will hit stores in October. “Unmask your first look here,” the official DC Comics account wrote, with a teaser image featuring a pair of glasses resting on top of miscellaneous files reading the title of the book.

DC Comics has not revealed an exact release date or plot details for the book, nor has the company shared information on the art team. The title does, however, reference Batman: Year One (1987), which was written by Frank Miller and illustrated by David Mazzucchelli. Two sequels, Year Two and Year Three, were then released in 1987 and 1989, and several other Year One origin comics on Batman-adjacent characters have since been released.
In addition to the comic book, Dano is slated to appear in two more films this year: The Fablemans, which is directed by Steven Spielberg, and Spaceman, which is helmed by Johan Renck.
