‘The Andy Warhol Diaries’ Trailer Brings the Iconic Artist to Life With AI

Netflix has shared the official trailer for The Andy Warhol Diaries, an upcoming six-part documentary that promises to chronicle “the remarkable life of Andy Warhol from the intimate vantage point offered by the artist’s own posthumously published diaries,” according to Netflix.

The preview for the Ryan Murphy-produced series showcases how the project utilizes AI technology to recreate Warhol’s voice as a narrator for his diary entries. Actor Bill Irwin originally recorded the lines, which were then fused with a text-to-speech algorithm that incorporated Warhol’s Pittsburgh accent for a strikingly realistic imitation.

“I’m just a freak,” Warhol “says” during the preview. “I wasn’t very close to anyone. Although, I guess I wanted to be.”

The official description reads: “Beginning with his childhood in Pittsburgh, the series traces Warhol’s almost unbelievably diverse journey fluidly moving between mediums and through eras as an artist – both revered and reviled – director, publisher, TV producer, scene maker, celebrity and much more. While he was a larger-than-life figure, Warhol was intensely private regarding his personal life. This series truly reveals much about the very complex man through his own words – often in his own voice through the use of cutting-edge AI techniques – and those who worked, created and played alongside him from the subversive to the mainstream, from John Waters to Rob Lowe.”

The Andy Warhol Diaries will land on Netflix on March 9. Watch the trailer above.

In case you missed it, Tom Brady will produce and star in an upcoming film titled 80 for Brady.
