The Abarth 500e Is One Angry Little Electric Hot Hatch

Abarth‘s take on the Fiat 500 took the small hot hatch world by storm when it was first released in 2008, sitting alongside competitive machines from MINI, Renault, and Ford as the definitive cute but firey Italian city car. Now, as the world becomes increasingly desperate for a switch to green energy, Abarth has taken the already-popular Fiat 500e and turned it into its own Abarth 500e.

Taking green quite literally if the press shots are anything to go by, the Abarth 500e (or Pulse, as it’ll be known in Brazil) is self-described as being “more Abarth than EVer.” Electric vehicle puns aside, the Italian marque has taken the standard 500e and improved not just its electric architecture, but also the weight distribution, wheelbase, and torque range for an all-round sportier driving experience conducive to better handling and performance.

In the launch “Scorpionissima” edition, customers will be treated to a fully-tricked-out Abarth 500e that comes with every option ticked. This means that alongside the “Sound Generator” feature that makes the EV sound like it has an engine (although, we’ll let you decide that), motors that push out 155 HP, 235Nm of torque and a 0-62 MPH time of seven seconds, drivers will get a one of 1,949 exclusive featuring either an “Acid Green” or “Poison Blue” body color with custom graphics. Elsewhere, 18″ diamond-cut “Titanium Grey” alloy wheels, a fixed glass roof and rear privacy glass, steel pedals and a kick plate with an engraved logo, and unique interior trim elements will all come on this special edition.

However, regardless of the spec you choose from, each 500e will feature driving modes fit for road, more engaging road driving, and racing, and of course all of the necessary mod-cons come with the car as standard and options, depending on the trim level.

Elsewhere in the automotive world, BMW has revived the iconic “Batmobile.”
