“Who is leading change in fashion?”, asks the British Fashion Council ahead of the 2020 Fashion Awards. Premiering tonight, 3 Dec. in a short film on the BFC’s Youtube channel, 20 individuals and brands will be recognised for leading positive change in the fashion industry during a very unpredictable year.
Instead of the usual focus on best designer, the BFC is starting fresh with four new categories of awardees: environment, people, community, and creativity. “From those who bravely faced this challenging year with pro-active responses to the global pandemic, showed leadership and creative resilience over the past year, to the ones who stood up against prejudice within the fashion industry and fight for change”, says the BFC in a press statement.
Tonight, we expect to see appearances from BFC positive change ambassador Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Rosalía, Millie Bobby Brown, and the recognition of great work from Halpern, Jacquemus, ASAI, Burberry, Vogue and perhaps even Animal Crossing. This year’s Fashion Awards is not only for big industry names and brands, but also for the activists and change-makers that are propelling the industry into a more inclusive and ethical direction — like photographer Lauren Woods and COMM editor-in-chief Choom.
We can’t wait to see what the 2020 Fashion Awards has in store tonight! Keep checking here for updates on the winners and memorable moments.
