From the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tenille Townes played a moving “Somebody’s Daughter” for the 2020 ACM Awards.
Following his performance from the Bluebird Cafe, Luke Combs introduced Townes, who also won new female artist of the year at the ceremony.
“I’m humbled to receive this honor from the academy,” Townes said. “I’m so thrilled to be here playing a song that was inspired by a young girl standing on the side of the interstate, holding onto a cardboard sign. It’s a reminder that we’ve all got a story and I think especially in these times, we really need each other.”
Alone with her guitar, Townes then went into an emotional performance of her song.
Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood, Blake Shelton with Gwen Stefani, Thomas Rhett, Jon Pardi and more were among the other performers of the night.
The ACM Awards are produced by dick clark productions, which is owned by MRC Media, the parent company of Billboard.
