Tems‘ last long-form release If Orange Was A Place is now two years behind us – though that’s not to say the Nigerian artist dropped off the music scene in the past two years. Having appeared on Future‘s “WAIT FOR U” alongside Drake, as well as the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack, Tems is officially back with her first solo release since 2021.
Entitled “Me & U,” the ethereal songstress slides over just over three minutes of soothing afro beats. “Make me your matter, make me your matter, make me your matter / Show me your substance, make me your person, make me your person,” she croons in the second verse over the percussive melody. The music video is equally as captivating. Set in Malta, the song’s visuals are intentional and intuitive, mainly focusing on the singer as she floats and dances across an array of divine landscapes. For Tems, “Me & U” isn’t just about making a triumphant return, it’s more than that. “‘Me & U’ is about discovering the real me, building a genuine relationship with the Creator, and gaining a true perception of self,” Tems conveyed in a statement. Tems co-produced the track alongside Ghanaian DJ GuiltyBeatz.
“Me & U” is streaming on Spotify and Apple Music now.
Elsewhere in new music, Drake surprised fans last night with new single, “8AM IN CHARLOTTE.”
