Taylor Swift’s ‘Folklore’ Reigns In U.K.

Taylor Swift’s ‘Folklore’ Reigns In U.K.

Taylor Swift has a fifth consecutive U.K. chart-leader as Folklore (EMI) blasts to No. 1.

Swift’s eighth album leads the Official U.K. Albums Chart on debut, notching up 37,000 chart sales, with two-thirds of those from streams and the remainder from downloads, the OCC reports.

With that fast start, Folklore is 2020’s most-downloaded album in its first week, eclipsing the opening tally of Eminem’s Music to be Murdered By.

The full rollout of Folklore on CD and vinyl is yet to come.

According to the OCC, Swift becomes just the fifth female artist to bag five or more U.K. No. 1 albums, joining Madonna, Kylie Minogue, Barbra Streisand and Celine Dion.

Coming in at No. 2 this week is Ronan Keating new compilation Twenty Twenty (Decca). It’s the veteran Irish singer’s ninth Top 10 album as a soloist.

Also new to the chart this week is Welsh pop-punk band Neck Deep with All Distortions Are Intentional (Hopeless) opening at No. 4, equaling their career best.

U.S. rapper and producer Logic just misses out on the top ten with his final album, No Pressure (Def Jam). It’s new at No. 11.

Just behind him is teenage Australian rapper The Kid Laroi, whose debut set F**k Love (Columbia) bows at No. 12.

A trio of One Direction albums return to the Top 40 following the pop group’s ten-year anniversary celebrations, as 2012’s Take Me Home (Syco Music) vaults to No. 25, 2015’s Made In The A.M returns at No. 37, and 2014’s Four is at No. 40.

Over on the Official U.K. Singles Chart, Joel Corry and MNEK’s “Head & Heart” (Asylum/Perfect Havoc) holds on for a second week at No. 1.

The dance tracks posts 76,000 chart sales, including 9.1 million streams, the biggest weekly streaming tally reported since February, according to the OCC.

Former leader “Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat)” (RCA) by New Zealand producer Jawsh 685 and Jason Derulo is at No. 2, some 18,000 chart sales adrift from the week’s best-seller.
