The nominations for the 2023 Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs) are here, and Taylor Swift unsurprisingly leads the pack with an impressive 20 nods across 69 categories. Trailing behind the Eras Tour singer, SZA and Morgan Wallen both earned a total of 17 nominations, all of which are determined by the Billboard charts’ year-end performance metrics.
Down the line, The Weeknd earned 16 nominations, while Drake and first-time nominee Zach Bryan earned 14 nods. Notably, Swift holds the record for the most Billboard Music Awards for a female artist, with a total of 29 trophies. At the 2023 awards, she could break Drake’s all-time record of 34 wins.
The finalists for the 2023 BBMAs Top Artist include Drake, Luke Combs, Morgan Wallen, SZA and Taylor Swift, while the nominees for this year’s Top New Artist are Bailey Zimmerman, Ice Spice, Jelly Roll, Peso Pluma and Zach Bryan. Those up for Top Male Artist include Drake, Combs, Wallen, Bryan and The Weeknd; and the finalists for Top Female Artist are Beyoncé, Miley Cyrus, Olivia Rodrigo, SZA and Swift.
This year, Billboard added nine new categories to the awards: Top Hot 100 Songwriter, Top Hot 100 Producer, Top Rock Duo/Group, Top Global K-Pop Artist, Top K-Pop Tour, Top K-Pop Album, Top Global K-Pop Song, Top Afrobeats Artist and Top Afrobeats Song.
The winners of the data-driven 2023 Billboard Music Awards will be announced on November 19 in an all-new format that veers away from a traditional broadcast. Instead, Billboard will offer fans exclusive content, including “winner celebrations, behind-the-scenes moments and performances created by the world’s biggest artists” in collaboration with Spotify Fans First. The performances and awards will roll out across the BBMAs and Billboard‘s social accounts.
