The nominations for the 2023 Golden Globe Awards have been announced. Among the nominees are Taylor Swift, Rihanna, and Lady Gaga. In addition, Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis got three nods: Best Motion Picture – Drama, Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama (Austin Butler as Elvis Presley), and Best Director – Motion Picture. Swift, Rihanna, and Lady Gaga will go head-to-head in the Best Original Song – Motion Picture category. Swift was recognized for Where the Crawdads Sing’s “Carolina”; Rihanna got nominated for the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever song “Lift Me Up,” which she made with Ludwig Göransson and Tems; and Lady Gaga’s nomination is for Top Gun: Maverick’s “Hold My Hand,” made with BloodPop® and Benjamin Rice. The other nominees in the category are “Ciao Papa” (a track from Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio) and “Naatu Naatu” from RRR.
The 2023 nominees for Best Original Score –Motion Picture are: Carter Burwell (The Banshees of Inisherin), Alexandre Desplat (Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio), Hildur Gu∂nadóttir (Women Talking), Justin Hurwitz (Babylon), and John Williams (The Fabelmans).
The 2022 Golden Globe for Best Original Song went to Billie Eilish and Finneas for “No Time to Die.” And Hans Zimmer won Best Original Score for his work on Dune. In addition, Lady Gaga was nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama, but did not win the Golden Globe.
The 2023 Golden Globe Awards air on NBC on Tuesday, January 10. The ceremony was not televised by the network last year after an exposé revealed a lack of Black members in the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. The HFPA responded by announcing 21 new members (including six Black journalists), a chief diversity officer, and a five-year partnership with the NAACP. The 2023 Golden Globes will be hosted by Jerrod Carmichael.
