To complement the M.C. Escher retrospective at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (MFAH), TASCHEN is allowing you to construct the artist’s riddles in the palm of your hands.
M.C. Escher. Kaleidocycles is a new box set featuring 17 easy-to-assemble paper sculptures transforming his repeated patterns into three-dimensional polyhedra, while an accompanying book details the geometric principles and artistic invention underlying the artist’s iconic practice. Flowers, butterflies, lizards, and seashells are amongst the many arrangements that can be made through the set.
The book is 64 pages in length and written by co-authors, Doris Schattschneider and Wallace G. Walker, both who have extensively covered the artist’s career across the spectrum of pop culture, including books covers, album artwork to film posters. M.C. Escher. Kaleidocycles is available to purchase via TASCHEN for $60 USD.
Meanwhile, “Virtual Realities” is one of the largest retrospectives on Escher to date — showcasing an extensive collection of rarely seen work, including 200 prints and 100 drawings. The exhibition is currently on view at MFAH until September 5, 2022.
Elsewhere in art, Kostas Seremetis merges pop culture animations in Signal.
