Announced last spring, we now have a first look at the upcoming Kamen Rider Black Sun series. Set to celebrate the 50th-anniversary of the tokusatsu series, the show set to arrive later this year serves as a reboot of the iconic Showa series Kamen Rider Black, which ran from October 4, 1987-October 9, 1988.
Straying away from the polished look seen in the late ’80s, Black Sun will see riders sport a raw, organic look drawn from their original beetle inspiration. Shinji Higuchi, close collaborator of Evangelion, Shin Godzilla, Shin Ultraman and Shin Kamen Rider name Hideaki Anno, serves as Visual Concept Designer for the show.
Following the original story, Kamen Rider Black Sun will chronicle stepbrothers Kotaro Minami and Nobuhiko Akizuki who are subjected to cyborg surgery to become Kamen Rider Black Sun and Shadow Moon. The two end up becoming bitter rivals and continually battle vying to be the most powerful. Kamen Rider Black Sun will be directed by acclaimed director Kazuya Shiraishi.
