Take a Closer Look at the Hyundai Grandeur Heritage Series Electric Restomod

Shortly after being unveiled, we now have a closer look at the Hyundai Grandeur Heritage Series electric restomod concept. Marking the 35th-anniversary of the front-wheel-drive executive sedan, the second entry in the Heritage Series is currently on display at the Hyundai Motorstudio Goyang center in Seoul, South Korea.

With the concept, Hyundai looked to reimagine the Grandeur, originally released in 1986, with an electric powertrain and “retro-futurism” design. The contemporary highlight inspired by vintage styling provides an update to the car’s shape and functionality.

Building on the look established by its IONIQ model, the front of the car features a chrome mesh grille and “pixel” LED headlights and taillights. The sleek look is continued with the flat wheel covers and striking chrome trim that complements the striking black paint job.

Moving into the interior, the luxury setup utilizes bright burgundy Alcantara and Nappa leather accented by silver metal and gloss black elements. Functionality is elevated with an overhauled dash with widescreen display with an integrated soundbar and portrait control panel that controls multimedia and driving functions. The 18-speaker sound system provides an “acoustic theory similar to that of a concert hall.” Other notable details include a watch storage slot, throttle style gear selector, “infinity mirror” roof lights and a virtual piano feature developed with instrument brand Samick.

“It is important for a designer to draw the future, but it is also important to look back on what we drew in the past,” said Lee Dong-won of Hyundai’s Interior Design Team.
