Takashi Murakami To Highlight “Roppongi Art Night 2021”

Takashi Murakami To Highlight “Roppongi Art Night 2021”

Started back in March 2009, the annual “Roppongi Art Night” is set to return this year with Japanese artist Takashi Murakami who will be showcasing works based on Doraemon.

Joining Murakami is fellow Kaikai Kiki artist MADSAKI along with Yuta Hosokawa, Kasing Lung and Aya Takano. An enormous 10 meter tall Doraemon sculpture by Murakami will be up for view along with installations, music, performances, and talks throughout the city of Roppongi. An open call for video artworks is now ongoing until July 13, where at least ten pieces will be selected to be streamed on the Roppongi Art Night Digital YouTube channel for the online portion of the event.

This 2021 festival will carry on with the theme intended for last year’s on-ground event which was canceled due to COVID-19. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the event will follow a hybrid model with both face-to-face and digital viewing options. The physical exhibitions will be held across Roppongi Hills, Tokyo Midtown and The National Art Center, Tokyo with the festival running slightly longer than usual to prevent overcrowding.

“Roppongi Art Night 2021” will run from September 23 to 26. For more details, head over to the official website.
