ZHU Hit With $3.5M Lawsuit by Mind of a Genius Founder David Dann

Grammy Award-nominated electronic music producer ZHU has been sued by longtime collaborator and Mind of a Genius founder David Dann.  According to a report by Pitchfork, who reviewed the legal filing, Dann is seeking at least $3.45 million in damages after his attorneys claimed that ZHU breached written and oral agreements. The suit, which was filed in July 2020, is scheduled for litigation in court on February 25th, 2021. The crux of the complaint stems from ZHU’s breakthrough song “Faded.” In the suit, Dann claims that he and ZHU met back in 2013, when ZHU showed him “a melody for what would later become the topline” for the track, which went on to garner a nomination for the Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording in 2015. ZHU Passes the “Risky Business” Torch to Mathame for an Otherworldly Remix

It’s not easy to pass ZHU on the brooding production front, but Mathame took that challenge on with ease, releasing an otherworldly remix of his recent hit single, “Risky Business.” The Italian brothers reimagined the track into something that soars above the dance floors while still keeping it grounded as a certified club hit. Alongside the remix comes a stunning visualizer that mirrors the mysterious imagery found in the video for ZHU’s original.  Mathame takes “Risky Business” and elongates ZHU’s cut of the title, making it feel as if it’s the little voice in your head telling you to reconsider what you are about to do. That paired with the relentless beat and soaring synths create an unnerving soundscape that pairs perfectly with the...

Dillon Francis Drops Dancefloor-Ready Remix of ZHU and Kito’s “Follow”

Back in August, ZHU‘s intoxicating summertime anthem with Kito and Jeremih, “Follow,” arrived via Astralwerks. In September, they dropped a music video for the track featuring dancers from Beyoncé‘s musical film Black Is King. A little over two weeks later, Dillon Francis has been enlisted to rework the tune. Dillon Francis’ remix of “Follow” curates a feeling similar to watching the seasonal transition between summer and fall. It’s far more somber than the original, forgoing the colorful piano chords that guide listeners through the track and replace them with a subtle melody alongside Jeremih’s hopeful vocals and minimal percussive elements. While the original drew upon the feeling of never-ending su...
