When it comes to launching a successful music career, banging tunes aren’t the only factor when it comes to success. Instead, especially in the digital age, music often must come alongside a strong visual brand built around an eye-catching and memorable logo. This rule is especially relevant in the world of electronic music, as bold, captivating visuals and signature artwork are must-haves for any producer with a live show. Logos are emblazoned on merch, splashed across fan art and featured on album covers—and, if all goes well, permanently displayed on fans’ bodies as a tattoo. Have you ever connected with another audience member at an event over your mutual love for an artist? We’ll bet it was because one or both of you were sporting their logo. In shor...
This year, the team at EDM.com is proud to publish four installments of “Best of 2020” coverage: Industry Leaders, Performances, Music Producers, and Songs. With no venues to perform at in 2020, it seemed at times as if artists simply blindfolded their eyes, threw a dart at a map, and travelled to places to perform—locations that are usually pipe dreams. However, due to the dogged fury of COVID-19 and the surge of streaming, these pie-in-the-sky destinations became the new norm for DJs who wanted to connect with fans in the absence of tours. To honor their creativity and seminal influences on the live music industry, we’ve recognized ten of the year’s best performances in dance music. RÜFÜS DU SOL Live from Joshua Tree Filmed in late 2019 and released in ...

Back in July, Bob Moses teamed up with ZHU for the release of their dark, minimal track “Desire.” This atmosphere was expanded over the weekend when Charlotte de Witte added some of her haunting techno flair to the tune. de Witte’s pounding drums are instantly recognizable and while she certainly raises the tempo from the original, she does well to maintain its eerie tone. In addition to cranking up the drums, the synths from the trio are emphasized in her remix with the addition of an acid-infused, wobbly bassline. Check out the new remix below. de Witte’s “Desire” remix is packaged with an animated music video. Fans might remember the original track’s visual accompaniment, which features red and blue characters falling through a futuri...
