Splash House Brings a Wet and Wild Weekend to Palm Springs

People in cowboy hats and thongs standing in line at the local I Heart Mac & Cheese; golf carts speeding down the streets, bubble guns at the ready; and some of the most enthusiastic, non-eight-year-old patrons that an aviation museum has ever seen…Oh, Splash House, there’s nothing quite like you. It’s Christmas in August this year in Palm Springs, thanks to not one, but two editions of the staple SoCal dance music festival. With Weekend One spanning from August 12th to 14th, the event’s first run this month was a wet and wild takeover of The Renaissance, Margaritaville and Saguaro Hotels by day and the Palm Springs Air Museum by night.  As headliner John Summit famously tweeted (and has since deleted), “I’m drunk and I’m high and I’...

A Day in the Life of…Yung Bae

If you somehow haven’t heard of Yung Bae, you’d be one of the billions (two billion, and counting) who hasn’t experienced his 2019 get-up-and-dance runaway hit “Bad Boy.” “Growing up in Portland,” he tells us, “I was always attending concerts…so I was very interested in anything that the scene had to offer.” Music was only a hobby until his 2014 debut Bae. “The biggest takeaway I had from Portland was just how diverse and welcoming the scene there is,” he says. This August he released the ultimate sunshiny feel-good track “Silver and Gold” (featuring Sam Fischer and Pink Sweat$), with its purely joyful backup horns and claps. “The way I’ve been explaining it is…it’s as if Motown were to meet late ‘70s disco era,” he says. “I love the happiness that most Motown offers and pairing that with ...

Fresh Pressed Reintroduces Festivals to the Pacific Northwest

My eyes were fixated on the Tacoma skyline as I lay on the sharp, prickly grass below the only shaded structure in the venue. Gazing out into the horizon, a silhouette of high rises framed the lonesome stage that would be the focus of the evening.  Grappled by my surroundings, I was unaware of the impromptu game of Duck, Duck, Goose that had attendees cheering for the winner as she slid down to the ground. Nor was I aware of the spontaneous crowd that rose from the field to partake in a yoga session.  All throughout the venue, mini beehives of activity sprung up, all in high spirits, waiting for the reverberation of the speakers to pull them to the dancefloor. Over an hour later, the crowd cheered on as the music finally returned to Haub Family Field. Nora En Pure performing...

Outside Lands Reveals Single-Day Lineups

Just last month it was revealed that Outside Lands would be pushing their beloved Summer event to the Fall. While the update came as no surprise, fans were excited to see a new batch of artists added to the list, and the fact that the date changed to Halloween weekend meant Outside Lands would provide the perfect chance to don some epic costumes.  The team behind the festival is now back with their next announcement, the single-day lineups.  The party starts on Friday, October 29th. The first day features a bevy of newly added artists to the roster, including The 1975 replacement headliner Glass Animals. They will be rocking out alongside fellow fresh additions SG Lewis and Kaytranada. Day Two lists ZHU as one of the headlining acts, and sets from Shiba San, Marc Rebillet, a...

Yung Bae Teams Up With AWOLNATION for Future Funk Track “Disco Body Parts”

Future funk producer Yung Bae has teamed up with AWOLNATION for his newest single “Disco Body Parts.” Out via Sony Music’s Arista Records, the lively track reflects the rising star’s colorful and vibrant persona. Setting up an authentic disco ambience, the tune kicks off with an old vinyl filter. A thumping bassline, funky synths, and energetic claps make up the groovy house beat, while the unmistakable, stentorian vocals of AWOLNATION belt affectionate lyrics about falling in love, which happens to involve some “disco body parts.” The track is ecstatic and made for a dreamy disco dance-floor. You can find “Disco Body Parts” on streaming platforms here and check out the track below. “I’ve been listening to [AWOLNATION] since I was in h...

Wiz Khalifa and MAX Join Yung Bae’s Future Funk Hit “Bad Boy”

Yung Bae‘s breakthrough hit “Bad Boy” just received a shot of adrenaline straight to the dome. The original single, which featured Marchiafava and bbno$, went viral after its summer 2019 release, climbing to #1 on Spotify’s “Internet People” playlist and becoming a big hit on TikTok. Nearly a year later, Yung Bae has recruited Wiz Khalifa and MAX to join in on his future funk tour de force. The 2020 version of “Bad Boy” bounces along to the same disco-inspired sound palette that helped the original soar to prominence while adding the renowned hip-hop flavors of none other than Wiz. The Grammy and Golden Globe nominated artist infuses his signature flow into the tune, which has an innately kinetic rhythm that oozes the kaleidoscopic u...
