Yellowcard Unveil 20th Anniversary One For The Kids Remaster, Release New Version of ‘October Nights’

In celebration of One for the Kids 20th anniversary this year, Yellowcard detailed a fully remixed and remastered vinyl version of the record. Alongside the announcement, the band released a brand new version of “October Nights” today. One for the Kids is Yellowcard’s third studio album. Its remastering comes with new artwork, and the pre-sale launches on this year’s Black Friday, November 26. “Because of the fact that Lobster Records had stored the reel to reels impeccably, we were able to sonically enhance the entire project while keeping the integrity of the original tracks,” founding lead guitarist Ben Harper tells SPIN via email. “This was our first ‘big studio’ recording experience, yet on a small ambitious label. We did in fact, run over budget and time during the ori...

Kids Just Wanna Have Fun

Pop-punk has always been for the kids, but for the kids? As in toddlers? Well, that’s an entirely different story. However, The First Rock Band on Mars is aiming to make music that rocks the little ‘uns.  The group includes Kellin Quinn (Sleeping With Sirens), Ryan Key (Yellowcard), Howi Spangler (Maryland Beach Rock), and musician and author James DiNanno, most of whom, you guessed it, have young kids. And what better way to introduce their offspring to the music their folks play than by performing it in a way that resonates for kids. Makes sense, right? Since they’ve taken the path of making kids’ music — releasing a self-titled EP on June 11 — we asked the members of The First Rock Band on Mars to pick their favorite children’s songs and albums. Fellow parents, maybe you’ll get som...

The 50 Best Alt-Rock Love Songs

Not all love songs are romantic. Not all love songs are even happy. It all depends on your definition of the term. For every “My Girl” or “Your Song,” there’s at least one track with a nuanced take on the darker, more complicated sides of love — the drama of a long-term relationship, the fear of losing a partner, the void left in love’s wake. Many of those songs fall under the admittedly broad umbrella of “alt-rock.” So to mark Valentine’s Day, we decided to gather 50 of our favorite “love songs” in the genre — both conventional and otherwise. Throughout this list, you’ll find lines about blooming romance and marital bliss. You’ll also find nods to drug addiction and car crashes. There’s something for everyone. – Ryan Reed 50. that dog. – “I’m Gonna See You” You take the good, you tak...

Yellowcard Drop Their Lawsuit Against Juice WRLD

Pop-punks Yellowcard, who broke up in 2017, have dismissed their lawsuit against the late emo-rapper Juice WRLD according to the New York Times, for allegedly copying elements of their tune “Holly Wood Died” in his Sting-sampling megahit “Lucid Dreams.” This is probably for the best, though Yellowcard’s lawyer Richard S. Busch pointed out to Pitchfork that “the dismissal was without prejudice, so it can be refilled [sic].” Let’s hope not; United States District Judge Consuelo B. Marshall originally paused the suit after the rapper born Jarad Higgins died of an overdose ruled accidental at age 21. At the time, the band was seeking a $15 million judgment, though they relented after Higgins’ mother Carmela Wallace was appointed as administrator of Juice WRLD’s estate. When reached for comment...
