Wolfgang Van Halen did his late father Eddie proud tonight (Sept. 3) during the Taylor Hawkins tribute at London’s Wembley Stadium, shredding on lead guitar during renditions of Van Halen’s “On Fire” and “Hot for Teacher.” The younger Van Halen was backed by Dave Grohl on bass and Josh Freese on drums, while The Darkness’ Justin Hawkins handled lead vocals. “It should come as no surprise that Taylor Hawkins was a huge fucking Van Halen fan,” Grohl said before the mini-set. “Didn’t you see those tights he would wear every night? Well, we’re lucky enough to have with us tonight a real Van Halen.” Foo Fighters frequently covered Van Halen in concert, including 12 times during their 2015 tour when “Ain’t Talkin’ ’bout Love” was a staple of the set list. Following Liam Gallagher’s opening set t...
Wolfgang Van Halen chewed out the upcoming episode about his father, Eddie Van Halen, whose death is the subject of a new episode of the show Autopsy on Reelz Channel. The Autopsy: The Last Days of Eddie Van Halen, in which the Van Halen family had no part in its production, examines Van Halen’s long battle with cancer that led to his death at the age of 65. It is set to air this weekend, on Sunday, June 5. The son of the rock legend took to Twitter to express his disdain. Fuck @ReelzChannel, fuck everyone that works on this show, and fuck you if you watch it. Fucking disgusting trying to glamorize someone’s death from cancer. Pathetic and heartless. https://t.co/84BE5rx81C — Wolf Van Halen 🐺 🚐 🙌 (@WolfVanHalen) June 1, 2022 “Fuck @ReelzChannel, fuck everyone t...
On a brisk December afternoon, Wolfgang Van Halen is weary but in good spirits. The admitted late riser is sitting in 5150, the studio home of Van Halen [the band] since 1983, nursing a coffee amidst the construction taking place around us. Wolfgang leans carefully on the studio’s console, wrapped in plastic. He’s in the process of updating the legendary space with longtime studio manager Matt Bruck and his producer, Michael “Elvis” Baskette. Towards the end of our chat, I get a notification on my phone that I knew would get his attention. In the thick of Hanukkah, Dave Grohl and Greg Kurstin have been plowing through their Hanukkah Session covers — and today’s selection? None other than Van Halen’s “Jump.” After I fumble with my phone for a second to get some semblance of service (we are ...
Wolfgang Van Halen‘s Mammoth WVH is teaming up with Dirty Honey for their newly announced North American Young Guns tour. The two rock bands are joining forces for a 30-date run, beginning on January 21. The presale starts at 10 a.m. local tomorrow, November 4, and the general sale begins at the same time Friday, Nov. 5. “We played one co-headline show with Dirty Honey back in September,” Van Halen said. “As soon as the night was over, we knew this would be a great package to take across the US. We couldn’t be more excited to share the stage with them and give all of the fans an unforgettable night of rock music.” Supporting both bands’ self-titled debuts released this year, the Young Guns tour will close on March 5, 2022, at the Fantasy Casino in Indio, California. Both “yo...
Wolfgang Van Halen and his band Mammoth WVH have been playing support for Guns N’ Roses since their tour launched in late July. Last night, GNR brought out Wolfgang to perform their set closer “Paradise City” during a show at Hard Rock Live Arena in Hollywood, Florida. “Wolfgang Van Halen. You know how cool that is to say that? That’s fuckin’ cool. You don’t understand — we’re talking legacy!” Axl Rose exclaimed, referring to Wolfgang’s legendary dad, the late great Eddie Van Halen. Wolfgang took on guitar duty while also singing backup with Slash and Duff McKagan. GNR shared images from the performance on Twitter, writing: “Paradise City with @WolfVanHalen. Thanks for a great Fn night!” Wolfgang shared posts from the show too, using captions like “Yeah, this actually happened” and “What a...
Up a difficult-to-see road, branching off one of the busiest roadways that cuts through Beverly Hills to the San Fernando Valley, is one of the most famous numbers in all of hard rock: 5150. The studio—accessible by navigating several corners of a curvy, gravelly road—sits behind a gate that’s carefully monitored. For the average person, it’s extremely difficult to find—and with good reason: quiet please, genius working. For Wolfgang Van Halen, this is home. In a single-story gray building sits the house that Eddie Van Halen built—and it still feels that way. Beginning with 1984, every Van Halen album has been recorded in this space. Though the mixing console needs to be overhauled (“Damn ’90s technology,” says Matt Bruck, the co-manager of Eddie’s line of guitars, EVH Gear, as we walk int...

The song is a driving rock track with lyrics that include: “Hey you. Anything is possible. You’re not the only one. Yeah. Let ‘em think you’re unremarkable and prove them wrong.” A lyric video featuring classic black & white footage of people watching TV as the lyrics roll on screen can be seen below. Many were brought to tears thanks to “Distance,” the Wolfgang Van Halen song and video that paid poignant tribute to his late father Eddie Van Halen, but two new songs from Wolf’s upcoming Mammoth WVH — “Don’t Back Down” and “Think It Over” — showcase a different side of the musician who we named one of the best new artists of 2020. “Think It Over” is “a song that Wolfgang wanted to share to showcase the diversity of the album,” according to a release. Van Halen wrote all of the songs and performed all of the instrumentation and vocals for the debut album, and that’s reflected in the clever video for “Don’t Back Down,” a scorching rocker. Check out the clip for that song below. [embedded content] Listen to “Think It Over” below. The self-titled, long-awaited debut lands June 11 via E...
One of the biggest surprises of the Grammys’ new “In Memoriam” segment was that Eddie Van Halen seemed to be ignored as compared to other legends who died in 2020. Though not completely slighted — a guitar sat alone while 20 seconds of “Eruption” played with archival footage of Van Halen was shown in the background. In a tweet on Monday afternoon, Wolfgang Van Halen revealed that the Grammys had bigger plans — including having him perform his father’s legendary 90-second thunderbolt “Eruption.” <!– // Brid Player Singles. var _bp = _bp||[]; _bp.push({ “div”: “Brid_10143537”, “obj”: {“id”:”25115″,”width”:”480″,”height”:”270″,”playlist”:”10315″,”i...
Wolfgang Van Halen appeared on the TODAY show to talk about his upcoming Mammoth WVH solo debut, featuring “Distance,” the single that’s a tribute to his late father Eddie Van Halen. Asked about the lyrics — “No matter what the distance is, I will be with you / No matter what the distance is, you’ll be okay” — he said, “It’s almost a mantra for you when you lose someone that’s important to you. As a parent or really anyone that plays a large role in your life,” Wolfgang said. “That’s my mantra when I think about my dad.” He also performed the song, which you can see below. Eddie Van Halen passed away in October 2020 after a long battle with cancer. But he was very much aware of his son’s musical accomplishments. “I’m so thankful that my father was able to listen to and enjoy th...
Wolfgang Van Halen and his Mammoth WVH band performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Thursday (Feb. 11) playing tribute to his late father Eddie Van Halen with the emotive hit single, “Distance.” The tune was written when Eddie was fighting cancer and Wolfgang was “imagining what my life would be without him and how terribly I’d miss him.” This followed the announcement of the Mammoth WVH self-titled debut album, which “Distance” will appear on. Proceeds from that song will go to Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation, Eddie’s favorite charity. “The name Mammoth is really special to me,” Wolfgang Van Halen said in a statement about the album. “Not only was it the name of Van Halen before it became Van Halen, but my father was also the lead singer. Ever since my dad told me this, I always thought tha...
