Vulnerabilities in Windows and Chrome Used in Series of Highly Targetted Attacks

In April, Kaspersky experts discovered a number of highly targeted attacks against multiple companies utilising a previously undiscovered chain of Google Chrome and Microsoft Windows zero-day exploits. One of the exploits was used for remote code execution in the Chrome web browser, while the other was an elevation of privilege exploit fine-tuned to target the latest and most prominent builds of Windows 10. The latter exploits two vulnerabilities in the Microsoft Windows OS kernel: Information Disclosure vulnerability CVE-2021-31955 and Elevation of Privilege vulnerability CVE-2021-31956. Microsoft has patched both today as part of Patch Tuesday. Zero-Day Attacks Recent months have seen a wave of advanced threat activity exploiting zero-days on the internet. The entire utility, Windows File Recovery, as of right now runs only on the Window’s Command shell, and it’s only available from the Microsoft Store. Windows File Recovery. Windows is Getting A New Apple-Like Upgrade

Sourced from The Sun UK. Windows search is getting a massive upgrade in the guise of Mac’s Spotlight search function with a tool called PowerToys Run. Launched this past Tuesday and still in a very early stage. CNN calls the new feature “promising”, a search box that could put the Start Menu and Windows key-R shortcuts out of business. The new tool was announced at Build, Microsoft’s annual developer event. It was held virtually this year for the first time in its history because of the coronavirus pandemic. Other highlights included new Google Docs-like features for Office and some Edge browser updates. The new search tool pops up in the middle of your screen, spurred forth by an Alt-Space shortcut, and is incredibly fast at finding files, programs and other items. It’s much faster than t...

New Windows 10X OS Struggling to Perform Basic Functions

Sourced from The Sun UK. Microsoft has spent a good while now pushing for a single version of Windows that can run on every type of device, and while the company hasn’t managed to achieve this as well as they might have liked in the past – now the company seems to be close to finally reaching that “one Windows” ecosystem. Enter Windows 10X. A new edition of Windows 10 designed for dual-screen devices like Microsoft’s upcoming Surface Neo. The operating system is also slated to be introduced to all devices running a Microsoft OS in the near future. That’s the plan, at least for now. Now, according to MS Power User, Microsoft is not satisfied with the performance of a number of Win32 apps when virtualised in 10X. When in the background, these apps are struggling to perform basic tasks such a...
