Premiere: Whyte Fang Cuts Through the Static With Primal Single, “Transport God”

Whyte Fang is going to keep letting her music do the talking with “Transport God,” a new single premiered exclusively today via EDM.com. A curious phrase initially obscured under a thick fog of reverb, the lyric “you could transport god” leaps suddenly into the foreground in a profound moment of clarity. As with her prior efforts, Whyte Fang takes a “less is more approach” when it comes to her vocal elements, opting to loop, glitch and iterate upon precisely defined vocal patterns. Turning them into something more closely resembling the ominous incantations that have since become her signature, Alison Wonderland’s enigmatic alias once again stuns. Her unapologetically primal approach is mirrored in the track’s production. Whomping 808s, high-...

Whyte Fang and the “Very Weird Side” of Alison Wonderland She Couldn’t Hide Anymore

Alexandra Sholler is weird. Her words—not mine. When I caught up with Sholler, whose fans know her as the superstar DJ and singer-songwriter Alison Wonderland, one word popped up more than any other: “weird.” On a radiant day in Los Angeles, we’re ironically talking about Whyte Fang, her secretive nom de plume by which she’s writing the darkest music of her career. Profound but lost, Whyte Fang has always been veiled beneath another skin. Making woozy beats that could soundtrack a fever dream out of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, she predates Alison Wonderland and she’s subconsciously influenced the chart-topping artist all these years. But she’s a completely different person. They just happen to look alike. After all, who are we if not doppelgängers of...

Listen to Whyte Fang’s Hypnotic Single, “Girl”

Alison Wonderland descends further into the unknown with the spellbinding “Girl,” the third single to release since she revived her Whyte Fang alias. Wonderland’s experimental side project continues to cover new ground in the realm of bass music. Her latest track is equally curious as her prior singles, as hypnotic vocal chants serve as the connective adhesive of this minimal trap banger. Much like the preceding “333,” Wonderland manipulates her vocals to create hypnotic loops, each drenched in an unpredictable concoction of delay and reverb, adding a tangibly psychedelic flare to the mix. Alison Wonderland Steps Into the Dark Side With Woozy Whyte Fang Track, “333”

Alison Wonderland continues her journey into the abyss with “333,” a brand new track released under the guise of her Whyte Fang alias.  For over a decade, Wonderland has nurtured a secretive side project that explores the darker side of electronic music. Producing as Whyte Fang, she creates woozy, heavy-hitting sounds that might not necessarily fit under the Alison Wonderland umbrella.  Opening up with eerie, distorted vocals, “333” sets an ominous tone early on. After a tense, metallic build-up, Fang introduces a wobbly bass drop with saturated kicks and frenetic vocal chops. She then blasts into the realm of techno, bringing the arrangement home with a pounding four-on-the-floor section. All in all, the entire experience is delightfully di...

Alison Wonderland Announces Headlining Whyte Fang Debut In Los Angeles

Whyte Fang is ready to “get weird” with her debut in the City of Angels. The brainchild of Alison Wonderland was revived late last year with “TIDES,” a wonky single infused with distorted trap sound design. Teaming up with Brownies & Lemonade around the same time, Whyte Fang previewed what was to come with a mind-bending live set.  After a break in the action, the Whyte Fang revival picked up considerably more steam this week. First, Wonderland previewed unreleased Whyte Fang music and blew the crowd away with a taste of the spellbinding show production and visuals backing the effort.  Immediately after came the announcement of Whyte Fang’s headlining debut. For longtime fans of the trap and bass star, the location could not be more ideal: Los An...

Alison Wonderland Revives Whyte Fang Alias With Distorted Banger, “TIDES”: Listen

Alison Wonderland has heeded the call of the wild with her Whyte Fang alias, which made its return this week after more than six years since new music last arrived. Her new single “TIDES” dropped today under her own FMU Records banner. “This is all the weird stuff,” Wonderland playfully warned while teasing its release. She’s not wrong: during its 105 seconds, frenetic strings manage to mutate into a firestorm of distorted 808s and eerie synths. The wonky “TIDES” then sprints across the finish line with an adventurous second drop in double time, delivering a raucous rush of drum & bass. While hectic in its structure, “TIDES” is enticing in its sound design, which finds Whyte Fang bringing the arrangement together for one cohesive an...

Alison Wonderland is Reviving a Musical Alias From a Decade Ago

It looks like Alison Wonderland is breathing new life into a decade-old alias. An Instagram account belonging to the alias, Whyte Fang, uploaded a cryptic image on Monday, Monday 3rd. With no caption, the mysterious image has led fans to believe that it’s the official artwork for a new single. The account, which has rarely been active since its 2016 inception, only follows nine pages, two of which are FMUOASL—Wonderland’s official merchandise store—and her manager, Garth Krane. The parallels between Alison Wonderland and Whyte Fang are crystal clear. However, her distinctive voice strikes a more punk tone in the industrial production of Whyte Fang, akin to the indie rock flair of Shiny Toy Guns vocalist Carah Faye Charnow.
