Last year, a mysterious new artist named LŪN emerged into the scene. This anonymous artist certainly came to play, dropping fiery midtempo bangers right from the get-go. A few months later, in an exclusive interview with EDM.com, LŪN revealed herself to be the renowned electropop artist Lights. “I’ve let Lights spread her wings out pretty wide in terms of genre-dabbling and multiple creative outlets and projects and I’m proud of that,” she said at the time, adding that LŪN “became the vessel for me to free a facet of my creativity that has been percolating all these years.” In essence, LŪN is the polarity to Lights. And the alias allows her to expand her production prowess and explore her dark side without compromising the light. Now, teaming up with electro-funk du...

Like many, Nathan Gurley and Sean Rodman of Moontricks draw their creative inspiration from the world around them. However, very few artists have the luxury of tapping into the rustic Kootenay mountains of Western Canada. This distinction has most certainly made a mark on the ever-evolving duo, who curate an electro folk sound like none other. Delivering an intricate aural experience that intersects somewhere between grassroots blues, wistful soul and what they’ve coined “boot-stomping bass,” Moontricks have their own signature style. While the barnstorming duo have been producing music as a tandem for over a decade, the two have only released singles and a handful of EPs, including 2012’s The Ignition, Home—arguably their most popular with fans—as we...

Known for his funky electronic sound and Albeton tutorials, Australian DJ and producer Slynk generated his new single “Bust It” by showcasing the versatility of a sample pack. Back in January, Slynk uploaded a video to YouTube called the “Biggest Sample Pack Ever,” where he put Black Octopus Sound’s Leviathan IV bundle to the ultimate test. He decided that the best way to showcase the pack’s 6,500-plus sounds would be to create four songs in four different genres, and then put it all together as one. For this endeavor, Slynk chose to experiment with drum & bass, dubstep, glitch hop and synthwave. Watch him break down his process below. Upon completion, the Vancouver-based tastemaker came to realize that one of the songs he had produced for the ...
