MTN Nigeria Posts Latest Results, Sees Massive Fintech Boom

MTN Nigeria has today announced its unaudited results for the half-year ended 30 June 2022. The company, an arm of MTN Group, considered Africa’s largest telecom in terms of subscribers and revenue, continues to report positive growth, particularly in its fintech wing. The half year saw MTN Nigeria’s active fintech subscribers grow by 87.3% to 11.5-million, including the registration of 4.2-million MoMo wallets since the launch of the fintech PSB on 19 May of this year. Sourced from Pure Cloud Solutions According to a new Digital Payment survey from Russia-based cybersecurity group Kaspersky, a staggering 61% of respondents from Nigeria said they faced phishing scams when using online banking or mobile wallet services. 67% have personally encountered fake websites, and a massive 82% experienced scams (via texts or calls) using social engineering. When asked about awareness of threats against digital payment methods, the majority of respondents from Nigeria report that they are aware of both the financial phishing attacks (95%) and online scams (97%). 78% also stated that they are informed about banking malware on PCs and on mobile. An ID card allegedly exposed as part of PLASCHEMA’s unsecure data buckets. A new report from the cyber-security team of online resource supplier Website Planet indicates that a huge alleged security fault at Nigerian government healthcare organisation PLASCHEMA (Plateau State Contributory Health Care Management Agency) has exposed over 45GBs of personal data, over 75,000 files, from an estimated 37,000 people. MTN Nigeria Bleeds $54-Million to Shady Bank Transfers

Sourced from TheTechieGuy (https://thetechieguy.com/) Nigeria’s largest telecom firm, MTN Nigeria and MTN’s leading subsidiary in terms of sheer number of subscribers, has taken 18 banks in Nigeria to court over an alleged series of unauthorised transfers to the tune of $53.7-million. The shady transfers were from an account reportedly owned by its mobile payment service bank (PSB) MoMo, which was only recently licensed in the West African country.
