Weezer wasn’t kidding when they said that their upcoming album, Van Weezer, would be heavier. Rivers Cuomo and company take things to headbanging heights with “I Need Some Of That,” the latest song to emerge from that album that’s out on May 7. “I Need Some Of That” follows the release of last year’s “Hero” and “Beginning Of The End,” as well as 2019’s “End Of The Game,” all of which appear on Van Weezer. The LP was initially announced in 2019, with a May 2020 release date which obviously didn’t pan out. OK Human, the group’s first-ever orchestral album, ended up dropping first. Van Weezer, the band’s fifteenth studio album, is produced by Suzy Shinn. The band also gave fans a sneak peek of Van Weezer song “Blue Dream”&n...
Weezer is back with a brand new video for “Grapes of Wrath,” the latest single off of OK Human, three months after the band put out “All My Favorite Songs” in the buildup to the January release. The relatable video focuses on all of the things one can do (realistic or not) while avoiding the dreaded Zoom video meetings of this past year, and it’s pretty much exactly what you would expect from the 29-year-old band after they (presumably) spent most of the last year in quarantine. Check out the new video below. [embedded content] Of course, the release of the video coincides with their upcoming livestream this Friday (April 16) at 6pm PT, in which Rivers Cuomo and crew will join the LA Philharmonic and YOLA (Youth Orchestra Los Angeles) at the legendary Walt Disney Concert Hall to ...

If you want to make that special Weezer fan you know happy this holiday season, Rivers Cuomo has a gift for you. The Weezer singer/guitarist just posted 2,655 demos on his website that are now for sale. Priced at $9 per era, it goes wayyyyy back to when he was a 6-year-old in 1976 through 2015. Why did he decide to release these now? Because it’s finals time! In a tweet, Cuomo explained that building the site was part of a project for the class “CS50’s Web Programming with Python and JavaScript.” The market page was added to his existing Mr. Rivers’ Neighborhood site, which launched last month. If you’re a completist and want the whole collection, you’ll get nearly two days of music for $81. The EWBAITE Years (2011-2014) alone is a whopping 38 hours worth of material and contains...
SPIN launched in the peak MTV era, when an innovative — or even just salacious — music video could make or break an artist. Thirty five years later, YouTube is an obligatory part of any promotional push, but no one’s counting on a mind-blowing clip to sell a record. (The views do often matter — just not always the creativity.) A sizable chunk of the best videos came out during the ‘90s alternative bloom, when directors like Spike Jonze, Michel Gondry and Hype Williams experimented with the style and substance of this malleable medium. But the format hasn’t died with MTV: artists like Childish Gambino, Kendrick Lamar and Miley Cyrus all made this list for a reason — and it wasn’t to meet a decade quota. Here are the top 35 from the last 35. Ready or not, here we go again. – Ryan Reed 3...
This summer’s Hella Mega Tour, featuring Weezer, Green Day, and Fall Out Boy, was slated to be 2020’s biggest rock expedition. But with cancellations being the new norm, the guys nonetheless found a way to give us a showdown. Before the Emmy Awards on Sunday (Sept. 20), during what can now be known as one of the most punk-rock game show moments ever, Weezer and Fall Out Boy put their familial bonds to the test with host Steve Harvey on a new episode of Celebrity Family Feud. Interestingly enough, the band members weren’t the only guys competing. Actor Seth Green — who appeared in the music video for “This Ain’t A Scene, It’s An Arms Race,” played alongside Pete Wentz and Patrick Stump. Both crews also promised to donate their winnings to a charity of their choice: For FOB, that w...
Excellent! We already knew Mastodon would be on the upcoming Bill & Ted Face the Music soundtrack with “Rufus Lives,” but the rest of it is pretty good too and will feature FIDLAR, Cold War Kids, Lamb of God and Weezer among many more. Have a listen to Weezer’s “Beginning of the End (Wyld Stallions Radio Edit)” below. In recent weeks, a teaser and a proper trailer for the film were released, along with a special behind-the-scenes clip that delves into Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter’s chemistry on set. Both the soundtrack and film will be released on Aug. 28. Check out the full tracklisting below. Rivers Cuomo has covered Green Day and Nirvana in his recent Island in the Zoom streaming sessions. In the clip he shared ahead of this week’s sessions, Cuomo left the ’90s and went way back in pop music history. The featured cover was “I Don’t Know How to Love Him,” which was written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice in 1970 for Jesus Christ Superstar that originally featured Yvonne Elliman’s Mary Magdalene singing the song. Like the other covers, this one was a tender piano ballad. Cuomo and his bandmates were supposed to hit the road this summer with Green Day and Fall Out Boy for the Hella Mega Tour, but, like almost everything else, it was pushed to 2o21. “Here’s my cover of “I Don’t Know How To Love Him” from last week’s Island In The Zoom Tune in toni...
Last week, Rivers Cuomo covered Nirvana’s “Heart-Shaped Box” in what he’s calling his Islands in the Zoom sessions. This week, he went back to the ’90s for another cover. Cuomo and his bandmates were supposed to hit the road this summer with Green Day and Fall Out Boy for the Hella Mega Tour, but, like almost everything else, it was pushed to 2o21. Tipping his cap to (one of) his tourmates, Cuomo covered Green Day’s “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life).” He was joined by his wife on piano. “Hey guys, so sorry about the postponement of HELLA MEGA. Here’s an acoustic cover of Green Day’s Time of your Life. (My wife joined me!) Next summer we shall rock,” Cuomo said in a tweet. Hey guys, so sorry about the postponement of HELLA MEGA. Here’s an acoustic cover of Green Day’s...
In what should come as a surprise to no one, Green Day, Weezer and Fall Out Boy have pushed their Hella Mega stadium tour to 2021. The bands announced the news in tweets on Tuesday (May 19) morning. “Hopefully this doesn’t come as a surprise, but as much as we were all looking forward to seeing you all this summer, everyone’s safety is our highest priority so we’ve officially made the call to reschedule all North American dates of the Hella Mega tour until next year,” a statement read. Hella Mega was supposed to hit 20 stadiums in the U.S., including Dodger Stadium, Wrigley Field, Citi Field, Fenway Park and more. Previously, the bands pushed the European leg of this tour, so it was just a matter of time when this announcement arrived. Check out the band’s tweets below: You Deserve to...
Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo is a self-proclaimed Nirvana super-fan, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that he covered one of that band’s signature tracks, “Heart-Shaped Box,” during quarantine. The performance, which originated from a Zoom session hosted for fans, finds the songwriter stripping back the heavy In Utero rocker to a quiet solo piano ballad. Decked out in a tank top and seated next to a massive plant, he plucks out the chords and nails the track’s verse-to-chorus dynamic shift — even replicating the guitar solo melody. Cuomo has gushed about his Nirvana obsession in the past, telling Rolling Stone in 2014, “In some ways, I feel like I was Nirvana’s biggest fan in the Nineties. I’m sure there are a zillion people who would make that claim, but I was just so passionately in lo...
