Sallah: Lagos warns residents against unhealthy disposal of waste, degradation of environment

Amid battle against COVID-19 pandemic, the Lagos State Government has charged residents against the unhealthy practice and be mindful of a cleaner environment as they celebrate the Eid-el-Kabir coming up at the weekend. Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tunji Bello, who disclosed this in a release, Wednesday, reiterated the need for residents to demonstrate utmost love to their environment even as they celebrate. Bello, while wishing all Muslims a happy Sallah celebration, urged residents to respect the environment, bearing in mind that a lot of wastes would be generated during the period and must be disposed of properly after bagging through approved PSP operators. AIB begins investigation as two aircraft collide at Lagos airport

Akintunde Akinleye/Reuters The Accident Investigation Bureau says it will investigate a collision involving Middle East Airline and a Turkish plane at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos. The incident occurred on Wednesday when the Airbus A330-243 operated by the Middle East Airline ran into the Turkish cargo aircraft with registration marks TC-LJC parked at the airport. The AIB in a statement on Thursday by its General Manager, Public Affairs, Tunji Oketumbi, described the incident as “serious”, while noting that a formal report would be released upon completion of the investigation. Afenifere: Pa Fasanmi lived a fulfilled life

Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, says the late Pa Ayo Fasanmi who died on Wednesday at the age of 94 lived a life of fulfillment. The Spokesman for Afenifere, Mr. Yinka Odumakin, said this in a telephone interview with newsmen on Thursday. He said, “He lived a long life of fulfillment and we pray his soul rests in perfect peace.” Odumakin said the group would send in a tribute to the late Yoruba leader later. Benue health commissioner resigns

The Benue State Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Sunday Ongbabo, has resigned his position. Dr. Ongbabo until his resignation also doubled as the Secretary of the State Action Committee on COVID-19. Zimbabwean government agrees to pay $3.5 billion compensation to white farmers

The Zimbabwean government and former white commercial farmers on Wednesday signed a 3.5 billion United States dollars compensation agreement for the farmers. The money, which will be borrowed by the Zimbabwean government, is meant for improvements made by the white farmers on their farms that were acquired by government under the land reform program. President Emmerson Mnangagwa, speaking at the signing ceremony in Harare, said the agreement was a significant step towards bringing closure to the land reform program. Enugu governor signs revised 2020 budget into law

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has signed the revised 2020 budget of N146 billion (N146,374,641,080) into law, as against the earlier approved budget of N169,557,658,300.00. The revised 2020 budget of N146.4 billion represents 13.67 per cent reduction in the initial budget size of N169.6 billion, which amounts to N23.2 billion The revised budget, which was in response to the negative consequences of the outbreak of the coronavirus (COVID-19) on the economy, was passed by State House of Assembly on Wednesday, after its presentation to the public for inputs. Oyo to set up employment scheme for repatriated indigenes

The Oyo State Government says it is working toward setting up an employment scheme that will provide work opportunities for its repatriated indigenes. Police arrest teenager for allegedly raping two-year-old

The Police in Adamawa have arrested an 18-year-old man for allegedly raping a two-year-old girl in Jimeta, Yola.
