Gunmen abduct graduate, one other in Ondo community

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have created tension in Ikaram Akoko, in Akoko North West council area of Ondo State, following the abduction of two residents of the community including a graduate, identified as Gbodi. It was gathered that the two victims were abducted within 24 hours in the community while the abductors of one of the victims demanded N10m to secure the freedom of the victim. Gbodi, the HND graduate, was abducted along Okeagbe Ikaram highway while returning from his farm which is few kilometres from his residence, Ikaram, the other victim was kidnapped very close to where some construction workers were abducted recently along Ikaram/Akunu highway. Kebbi governor: Why we can’t pay leave grant, gratuities

Gov. Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi, on Saturday, thanked the organised labour in the state for their patience, understanding and maintaining very good relationship with the government. Southeast governors lunches regional security outfit

The five governors of the Southeast region, on Sunday, launched Ebubeagu regional security to fight terrorism in the zone. The Chairman Southeast Governors Forum and governor of Ebonyi state, Dave Umahi, disclosed this to newsmen at the Imo government house, along side with other Southeast governors. According to him, the regional security would be the joint Vigilante from Southeast with their headquarters in Enugu state. ‘Fulani warlord’ Iskilu Wakili arrested in Oyo

A joint team of Ibarapa security operatives, including Oodua Peoples Congress, Vigilante, and other groups have arrested the alleged notorious Fulani warlord terrorising Oyo communities, Iskilu Wakili. Newsmen gathered that Wakili was arrested after several attempts resulting in a gun battle. There had been reports that Wakili and his gang were involved in the killings and kidnapping of several people in Ibarapa, Oke Ogun, Oyo State. Wakili was nabbed barely seven days after his second-in-command, Isiaka Muhammadu, was arrested alongside four others. ‘Fulani herdsmen’ clash with Amotekun officials, vigilantes in Oyo

Three people have sustained injuries following a bloody clash between Fulani and Yoruba at Aba Abugudu Market in the Atisbo Local Government Area of Oyo State. It was gathered that two officials of Amotekun and a vigilante were injured during the fight which happened on Monday, March 1. According to newsmen, the Amotekun operatives identified as Michael Oguntade and Yekini Tijani and the vigilante were trying to break the fight when a Fulani man drew out his cutlass and attacked them and inflicted varying degrees of injuries on them. Bandits kill kidnapped Niger village head

The village head of Madaka, Alhaji Zakari Yau, in Niger State who was kidnapped last week has reportedly been murdered by bandits. Yau who was first kidnapped three months ago before being released and again taken into the custody of bandits was reportedly killed on Christmas day. The murder of the traditional ruler brings the number of people killed by bandits in Madaka to four. The bandits during the December 20 raid first killed the local head of the vigilante in the town, Ishyaku Alhassan, his son Abdulhamid Ishyaku and one other person. Reports from freed victims said that the village head was killed after being tortured by bandits who sometimes sat on him while smoking Indian hemp. Police commence arms mop-up in Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command has directed Commanders of all Tactical Units to commence arms mop-up exercise across the state. Commissioner of Police in the State, CP Joseph Mukan in a statement, said the decision to carry out the arms mop-up was in line with the directive by the Inspector General of Police rid the country of illegal possession of firearms. Mukan also directed the Commanders and Divisional Police Officers, DPOs to enlighten local security outfits in their areas of operations. Gunmen attack Borno villages, kill five

Gunmen, believed to be either Boko Haram or ISWAP, on Saturday, attacked three communities in Borno State, killing five herdsmen and stealing 480 cows, a government official has said. Sources said the insurgents, who were all armed with assault rifles, attacked three villages – Moduri, Kelewa and Ngudori in Magumeri Local Government Area around 6.30 pm on Saturday. Magumeri is one of the local government areas that share conventional boundaries with Gubio and Monguno where ISWAP staged coordinated repeated attacks that claimed the lives of over 120 persons. The local government is listed among the unsafe communities of Borno State by both the state government and the United Nations. Gunmen shoot police inspector dead in Edo

A police inspector, Felix Egbon, was on Friday night shot dead by unknown gunmen who attacked a team of police operatives in Auchi, Edo State.
