NSCDC partners youths to protect critical infrastructure in Akwa Ibom

The Akwa Ibom Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), says it will collaborate with youth leaders across the state to ensure adequate protection of critical government infrastructure. The State Commandant of NSCDC, Mr Samuel Fadeyi, said this while answering questions from newsmen on Tuesday in Uyo. Fadeyi said that, in view of the current #EndSARS protests in some parts of the country, the command has deployed all its personnel to critical government infrastructure in the state. He said the development is to ensure that hoodlums that have hijacked the protests do not loot, vandalise or destroy the infrastructure. Akwa Ibom announces dates for resumption of schools

Akwa Ibom State Government has fixed September 21 2020 for the commencement of processes for the resumption of academic activities in the state-owned university, college of education and public primary schools. Similarly, 28th September has been fixed for the resumption of full academic activities in secondary schools while the state-owned Polytechnic will commence academic activities on the 5th of October, 2020. Plateau United coach Abdu Maikaba has stated that they need the required support to meet the target of semi-finals of the 2020/2021 CAF Champions League. IOM: Social media pushing youths out of Nigeria

The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) says social media is a major tool influencing young Nigerians to leave Nigeria. Franz Celestin, IOM Chief of Mission, said this in an interview with newsmen. Citing the number of Nigerian returnees from Libya, Celestin stated that their reason for migration could not have been poverty or insecurity. He disclosed most were from Southern parts of the country whose states were more secured and economically viable. The IOM boss observed that young Nigerians get easily moved by ‘success stories’ people post on social media. Group tasks multinational oil companies on social responsibility

Oil/Gas Multinational Companies operating in Eastern Obolo local government area of Akwa-Ibom state have been urged to stand up to their Corporate Social Responsibility to host communities. Mr Iroigak Ikaan, a former Commissioner for Lands and Housing in the state, made the call during a stakeholders meeting organised by Utono Obolo in Uyo the state capital. Football Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation has endorsed the final table of the Nigeria Professional Football League for the 2019/2020 season as prepared and released by the League Management Company. Governor Emmanuel: No cultist will succeed me in 2023

Akwa Ibom State Governor Udom Emmanuel has vowed never to allow a cultist to succeed him in 2023 so as not to plunge the State back into violence. Emmanuel has said he is not interested in a third term arrangement through surrogacy.
