Billie Joe Armstrong has had enough of non-fans asking for photos. In a new interview with Kerrang!, the Green Day star opened up about fame, mental health, and his opinions on social media. “Sometimes it’s great,” the rock legend said of fame. “When I’m able to communicate with fans and people are cool, and when people get something out of the music and you make these connections. But I think the thing that makes it uncomfortable is how fucked-up social media has become, and how everyone’s got a camera in their pocket now. There are a lot of people out there who aren’t fans who just wanna be guilty by association or something. They wanna hold you in their pocket as a souvenir. And I think that sometimes that’s the part that gets annoying.” The Kerrang! Cover StoryBillie ...
On the heels of releasing their live record, Live at the Electric Ballroom, PUP have released a cover of one of their favorite songs — Grandaddy’s “A.M. 180,” off Grandaddy’s 1997 debut LP, Under the Western Freeway. “Grandaddy are one of the unsung hero bands of indie rock,” drummer Zack Mykula said in a statement. “A best-kept secret. I mean, forgive me for going ham, but this song is like a lily in an otherwise barren valley. An outstanding piece of songwriting, doing more with less than most any other song of the same caliber. So, that’s why we decided to cover it.” Listen to PUP’s cover of Grandaddy’s “A.M. 180″ below. Aside from the new cover drop, PUP have also announced their upcoming PUPTHEZINE Vol. 4 , QUARANZINE. Source: NBC / Getty The film and television industry froze when COVID-19 swept the nation. While the curve is currently trending downward in some states, it still isn’t safe to resume production as they once did before the shutdown. Cue in Tyler Perry’s recent filming experiment at his studio. The mogul took a carefully-planned gamble during a two-week production of his BET show “Sistas,” subsequently wrapping coronavirus-free. The rewarding efforts cost the guy a couple of million, but we all know his money is long. Have you seen Tyler Perry Studios? Source: Breonna Taylor / Breonna Taylor Even though a large percentage of media outlets have pivoted away from America’s glaring racism problem the fight for equity continues. Madonna, who has been strangely outspoken since the COVID-19 pandemic began (to put it mildly) found herself in some hot water on Tuesday night after sharing a post in praise of Dr. Stella Immanuel. Rewinding for just a sec, Dr. Immanuel is a doctor (obviously), and appeared on the steps of the U.S. Supreme Court on July 27 as part of America’s Frontline Doctors to tout the use of hydroxychloroquine (which doesn’t work) as a cure for COVID-19 and says masks don’t help to reduce transmission. Oh, and the Houston-based Dr. Immanuel believes in “demon sperm” and “alien DNA” and is a favorite of President Donald Trump. That didn’t stop Madonna from singing her praises. “The Truth will set us all Free! But some people don’t want to hear the truth,” Madonna wrote. “Especially the people in ...
Pearl Jam, R.E.M. Sia, Lorde and more have joined forces with the Artists Rights Alliance to demand that the political parties “establish clear policies requiring campaigns to seek the consent of featured recording artists, songwriters, and copyright owners before publicly using their music in a political or campaign setting,” the Artist Rights Alliance announce in a statement. The letter also points out “the fundamental right of music creators to decide who can use their music and on what terms.” And if they do not comply, the political parties risk legal action. The ARA furthered their point in the following statement: “We’ve seen so many artists and estates dragged into politics against their will and forced to take aggressive action to prohibit the use of their music – usually songs th...
Source: DEREK R. HENKLE / Getty Mayor Lori Lightfoot ordered crews to temporarily remove statues of Christopher Columbus from Grant and Arrigo parks in Chicago to thwart hostile confrontations between protestors and police. Since July 18, protesters tried to forcefully remove a tarp-covered statue in Grant Park, sparking a violent clash with Chicago police. The demonstration initially started at Buckingham Fountain to protest defunding the police, but quickly turned hostile as the crowd grew. Activists staged a protest in front of Lightfoot’s home overnight. As a result, the shook Mayor buckled to pressure and immediately ordered the removal of the controversial statue in Little Italy hours later. And just like that – by the cover of darkness – Chicago’s Colum...
Source: Gilbert Carrasquillo / Getty The e-beef continues to escalate between Joe Budden and Gillie Da Kid. One of the former’s most embarrassing moments might get revisited for the world to see. The spark, this time, was over that time Gillie Da Kid went All Lives Matter. Note, it turns out that was a four-year-old clip of Gillie. Nevertheless, Budden and co. commented on it. [embedded content] As spotted on HipHopDX the Philadelphia MC shot back at Joe on the newest installment of his Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast. On episode 70 he addressed him directly with a very clear threat of putting him on blast. “You keep talking sh*t ni*** and the next episode I’m putting it the f*** out,” Gillie said. “They walked in because you was talking crazy about them ni****. And then a ni*** ...
