Van Halen songs like “Runnin’ With The Devil,” “Panama” and “Hot For Teacher” were the soundtrack to the lives of so many generations of rock fans, and there’s barely a musician in the world — guitarists especially — who didn’t idolize the fast-fingered, innovative playing of Eddie Van Halen. His death leaves a guitar-shaped hole in the universe. Eddie Van Halen’s longtime bandmate, Michael Anthony shared a photo with only the words “heartbroken” as he sent condolences to Van Halen’s family. David Lee Roth later put out a statement of his own. Former Van Halen singers Sammy Hagar and Gary Cherone shared their shock in their own posts. Whether you were blessed to have known him or not, He was a kind and gentle soul… His impact on ALL our lives was immeasurable! His music, eternal! My deepes...

The best “feud” of 2020 continues to rock on. In response to young British musician Nandi Bushell’s “Rock and Grohl” song — which in turn was her reply to his song for her, the “superhero theme” “Nandi” — Dave Grohl issued on the Foo Fighters’ social media, emphasizing (jokingly) that he’s “down, but I’M NOT OUT.” He continued: “Your epic song will be hard to beat, but I think I know just what to do…” What the Foo Fighters drummer will do next to challenge or honor his 10-year-old fan/peer is anyone’s guess. Their awesome “feud” started on Aug. 17, which Bushell issued a challenge on her IG page that said, “My dream is to one day jam with @davestruestories, @taylorhawkinsofficial and all the @foofighters! Mr Grohl I would love to have a drum battle with you! I LOVE Ever...

Hybrid Theory saw late singer Chester Bennington tackling issues such as drug abuse and parental problems in his lyrics. Presumably, the version is one of the “forgotten demos” that will be on the Hybrid Theory 20th Anniversary Edition Super Deluxe Box Set that drops Oct 9. Check out the tune below.
