The Main Stage will also host Ultra’s mysterious final closing act on Sunday. After a long and often bitter feud, the organizers of Ultra Music Festival and residents of Downtown Miami have reached an agreement to allay tensions related to local disturbances. Ultra and the Downtown Neighbors Alliance—a neighborhood organization representing a dozen residential communities—have announced that the festival will implement a “community standards program” that addresses a litany of issues such as construction schedules, park closures, traffic management, and noise impact. A press release shared with EDM.com quotes James Torres, President of the Miami Downtown Neighbors Alliance, who believes the agreement “will allow Ultra and its neighbors to coexist.” Miami residents have long bemoaned Ultra, which has been held in the city since ...
A Boca Raton-based consumer rights firm has filed a class action lawsuit against the City of Miami and Event Entertainment Group, the organizers of Ultra Music Festival. Corwin Law is representing a class of Florida residents who purchased tickets to the 2020 edition of the iconic Miami music festival, which was scheduled to take place March 20th to 22nd at Bayfront Park. A press release shared with EDM.com by a consultant representing the firm states that attorney Marcus W. Corwin believes the promoters of the event “disguised” its 2020 cancellation as a postponement and unfairly offered an enhanced benefits package in lieu of refunds. Corwin called the offer “utterly unacceptable.” The eight-count class action lawsuit, filed in t...
“We are seeking a global settlement with [Event Entertainment Group] that will address our clients’ request for refunds” plus attorneys fees, Corwin tells Billboard. “Settlement is a better path than continued litigation for both the consumer and the defendant and I am hopeful that by filing these actions we can come to a mutually agreeable resolution. While Corwin insists his strategy isn’t to inundate Ultra with dozens of small claims, the tactic has definitely gotten their attention. “I’m trying to stop the flow of people being screwed,” says Corwin, who previously worked as a concert promoter before becoming an attorney in the 1980s. “Many consumers don’t read all the terms and conditions before filing a claim” and don’t realize they’ll get a VIP ticket for next year’s festival i...
Last month, a letter was shared stating that Ultra Music Festival would not be returning in 2021. Now, organizers have confirmed the contents of the letter and revealed that the event will not return until 2022. On Twitter, organizers shared a statement informing fans of the new developments and unveiling the festival’s new March 2022 dates. In the latter half of the statement, organizers tell 2020 ticket-holders that they appreciate their patience and ask them to check their emails for additional updates. At the time of writing, many have expressed concerns over not receiving a refund for the event’s 2020 iteration, which was canceled in March of 2020. While pass-holders were able to transfer their tickets to the now-canceled 2021 or scheduled 2022 outing, some have grown...
The organizers of Ultra Music Festival are planning to cancel the event’s 2021 edition, according to a letter obtained by Billboard. The letter is dated January 21st, 2021 and came from Ultra’s attorney, Sandy York. Addressed to Miami City Manager Arthur Noriega, it reveals that York anticipates the City of Miami will invoke the “Force Majeure” clause in the festival’s Bayfront Park license agreement. The implementation of such a clause typically takes place due to unforeseeable circumstances—such as a pandemic—that prevent someone from fulfilling a contract. York believes the same COVID-19 conditions that precipitated the festival’s 2020 cancellation remain a threat in 2021. While no formal announcement has been made...
