Hear Ty Segall’s Thunderous New Song ‘Hello, Hi’

Ty Segall announced his forthcoming album, Hello, Hi, and released its title track today. [embedded content][embedded content] “Hello, Hi” is a thundering ruckus of electric sound. Alternating between his vulnerable pleas and bashing strums, Segall’s wish is simple: “I leave a gift and I want to cry / A box of wood and a curtain / I just want to say hi.” Segall’s acoustic, electric guitars, and vocals on the record were mostly recorded by himself at home. Hello, Hi is slated for release on July 22 via Drag City, and is available to pre-order. The Harmonizer musician is set to embark on tour this summer. Segall is scheduled for dates throughout the U.S. during June and July, which kicks off on June 14 in Tucson, Arizona. He’ll then head over to Europe for 12 shows i...

Ty Segall’s New ‘Harmonizer’ Video Features a Singing Potato and Sex Doll

Psychedelic rocker Ty Segall went full-kook with the music video for the title track from his new album, Harmonizer. It follows the similarly trippy video for his last single, “Feel Good.” [embedded content] In the video, a potato sings in a microphone next to an egg, an apple, a hammer, and a cactus appear on top of a white, wooden cube. A mustached man gives himself a haircut and a sex doll is fed mashed potatoes with gravy. It all forms a strange harmony — all these objects piled around the white cube — that collides with masked people smashing the objects in a way that mirrors the unnerving, thrashing rush of electronic sounds. Segall surprise-released Harmonizer digitally in August. The physical release is set for October. The album features musician, Denée — who co-wrote two tracks —...

Ty Segall Surprise Releases First New Album Since 2019

Surprise! The prolific Ty Segall has been going non-stop for a while but hadn’t released a proper album of solo songs since 2019. Until now. This morning, Segall unveiled Harmonizer, a 10-song collection that is on streaming services now and will be out physically in October. Harmonizer was co-produced by Cooper Crain and recorded at Segall’s own Harmonizer Studios. Also appearing on Segall’s Harmonizer are The Freedom Band, which consists of Ben Boye, Mikal Cronin, Emmett Kelly, and Charles Moothart. Segall’s wife, Denée, co-wrote and appears on two songs as well. Last year, Segall released an album with Fuzz, which was their first album in five years. FUZZ Release Guitar-Laden Single ‘Spit’

FUZZ — the project consisting of Ty Segall, Chad Ubovich and Charles Moothart — will release their first album in five years next month. In July, the trio shared “Returning” and now, the second song from that upcoming collection has emerged. “Spit” is a smattering of guitars that channels vintage ’90s alt and classic garage rock (and all of the great aspects of both genres) and dirt-under -your-fingernails grit, which makes perfect sense since they had Steve Albini mix the album. The video for the clip was created by Moothart, who used his quarantine time wisely and learned how to make stop-motion videos. Here’s what Moothart had to say about the tune and clip: ‘Spit’ was written early in the process of working on III. When Ty and I first started working on this song, we didn’t know i...

Ty Segall’s FUZZ Announce First New Album in 5 Years, Share New Track

Nobody knows how to kick off their band’s return quite like FUZZ frontman Ty Segall. The San Francisco hard-rock trio released their latest track, the appropriately titled “Returning,” on Wednesday. They also announced that their upcoming third studio album, III, is out October 23 via In the Red Recordings. The eight-track project, which follows 2015’s II, features Segall on drums, Chad Ubovich on bass, Charles Moothart on guitar, and all three splitting vocals throughout. The group recorded and mixed the album at United Recording with engineer Steve Albini, who has previously worked with bands like Nirvana, the Breeders, and Pixies. And if it’s anything like the group’s latest single, it’ll be full of some heavy, distorted jams. The new project keeps “the focus on the ...
