It’s that time of the week again — a new Two Minutes to Late Night cover has dropped! Marissa Nadler takes on the lead vocals on the Dusty Springfield’s version of the moody track, “Spooky.” (The song was initially done as a jazz instrumental by Mike Sharpe in 1967.) “Trick or treat! We covered that Dustry Springfield song from every Guy Richie movie (which is actually a gender-flipped cover song),” the caption accompanying the video said. Nadler is no stranger to Two Minutes and has covered Steely Dan’s “Reelin’ in the Years.” But of course, Nadler isn’t alone. Cave In and Mutoid Man leader Stephen Brodsky and Earth’s Dylan Carson are both on guitar while Emily Lee of Shearwater and Loma takes the keys and the mini theremin. She also “mysteriously” transforms into a cat at some point in t...
Another week, another cover from Two Minutes to Late Night. The latest hardcore cover they tackle is the Misfits’ “Halloween II” —the B-side of the band’s 1981 self-released single, “Halloween.” The rendition brings a solid set of musicians including bassist Liam Wilson (the Dillinger Escape Plan/Azusa), guitarist Abby Rhine (Life’s Question), drummer Danny Lomeli (Incendiary) and Jordan Olds as Gwarsenio Hall with his guitar. Dwid Hellion, frontman and member of Integrity, took the vocal duties with a mask on and walked through the park with a little kid who was dressed in a skeleton suit. Unlike previous Two Minutes covers, this one took place outside the usual spots, which in this case is a musician’s home or studio. Rhine played in front of a backyard half-pipe outside while Wilson roc...
Fleetwood Mac’s floaty 1977 hit “You Make Loving Fun” got metalized thanks to members of Baroness, Mastodon, Cave in, Lucifer and more as part of the ongoing Two Minutes to Late Night series. Former Megadeth shredder Marty Friedman, Mastodon guitarist Bill Kelliher, Lucifer members Johanna Sadonis and Nicke Anderson (the latter also of Entombed and The Hellacopters), Baroness bassist Nick Jost, Cave In/Mutoid Man frontman Stephen Brodsky, and Two Minutes to Late Night’s Gwarsenio Hall and Hard Melissa. [embedded content] The ad-hoc group posted on the video “ooh ooh witchy womxn! We covered your mom’s favorite Fleetwood Mac Song and frankly our’s too. Also, Friedman resides in Japan plus Johanna and Nicke live in Sweden so there are all kinds of international spookiness in this video...
Two Minutes to Late Night closed out Labor Day Weekend with an unexpected cover of Robyn’s “Ever Again,” off her 2018 LP, Honey. Drawing inspiration from Thin Lizzy, 2M2LN host Jordan Olds, aka Gwarsenio Hall, took on guitar duties, bringing in Nate Garrett of Spirit Adrift, Troy Sanders (Mastodon, Killer Be Killed and Gone Is Gone) on bass and Ben Koller (Killer Be Killed, Converge, Mutoid Man and All Pigs Must Die), who took his place at the drumkit. Royal Thunder’s Mlny Parsonz returns with “another fake mustache” as the cover’s singer. “Call your girlfriend, the boys are back in town! We covered Robyn as if it were a Thin Lizzy song and Mlny’s back with another fake mustache,” Two Minutes to Late Night captioned the video. Two Minutes to Late Night has done a number of other notab...
To celebrate their 20th “bedroom cover,” Two Minutes to Late Night picked Billy Idol’s “Rebel Yell” for the series’ latest cover. “Rebel rebel, how could they know? Hot yell, I love you so. It’s a Billy Idol cover and Phil is playing his solo in a tiny child rocket ship tent. We did it, everyone!” the caption of the video said. With musicians getting more comfortable with performing from home, Phil Demmel of Vio-lence brings in his guitar solo in a fun way and shreds from inside a spaceship-shaped tent. Myke Terry of Volumes took vocal duties. Havok bassist Brandon Bruce, Lee Jowono of Potion, Ben Koller from Converge and Mutoid Man and All Pigs Must Die took their respective musical duties. And Jordan Olds as GW Arsneio Hall returned to round out the band. Two Minutes to Late Night has al...
