The news was announced on Saturday by Twin Peaks producer and longtime David Lynch collaborator Sabrina Sutherland via Facebook, who shared, “I am sad to have to post that Al Strobel passed away last night. Diane, this is one story we certainly didn’t see coming. According to a recently resurfaced interview with Twin Peaks composer Angelo Badalamenti, Queen Elizabeth II once opted out of a private Paul McCartney set to go watch David Lynch’s cult TV show — on her birthday, of all days. Badalamenti, who co-wrote almost all of Twin Peaks’ unforgettable music, recalled the story as it was told to him by McCartney in a 2011 interview with NME. The Queen’s urgency implies that this incident went down at her birthday party in either 1990 or 1991, when Twin Peaks was airing new episodes on ABC. “Back when Twin Peaks was kicking off around the world, I flew by Concorde to London, to work with Paul McCartney at Abbey Road,” Badalamenti explained. “He said, ‘Let me tell you a story’...

As Entertainment Weekly notes, the first two seasons of Mark Frost and David Lynch’s iconic television series Twin Peaks will be leaving Netflix at the end of June. Twin Peaks debuted on ABC in 1990, and instantly established itself as damn good content… and hot! But ratings began to dwindle by the time Season 2 rolled around, and although it was unceremoniously cancelled, it quickly achieved a reputation as one of the finest television series ever made. In 1992, it was followed by the prequ...

Over the past 20 years, he struggled with health issues and had a series of knee surgeries that caused infections, forcing him to take a leave from acting. David Lynch is not an easy nut to crack. The auteur has long preferred to keep things close to the chest, leaving fans and followers to fend for themselves in his proverbial forests. It’s hard to think of a performer who has aged more gracefully than Kyle MacLachlan. At 61, he’s still got that matinee-idol chin, full, robust head of hair, and the good-natured warmth to go along with it. Yet beneath the leading-man looks beats the heart of a considered, compelling character actor, a sensibility he’s brought to decades of beautifully idiosyncratic work in successes and flops alike. Even when he’s villainous, it’s impossible not to love him. (Except when he’s Mr. C in Twin Peaks: The Return, of course.) That kind of cerebral deadpan is key to his career-long collaboration with fellow Northwestern boy David Lynch, who plucked him from obscurity to star in his sprawling adaptation of Dune, whose disastrous reception nonetheless prepared him to become Lynch’s muse for Blue V...
