One killed in Kano petrol tanker fire
The Kano State Fire Service has confirmed one person killed in a fire incident involving a petrol tanker at Kofar Ruwa area of Kano metropolis. The spokesman of the Service, Saidu Mohammed, confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday in Kano. Mr Mohammed said the incident occurred on Monday night at Audu Manager fuel servicing station on Kofar Ruwa Road in Dala Local Government Area of the state. “We received a distress call from one Bello Musa at about 10:31 p.m. that a petrol tanker was gutted by fire at a fuel station on Kofar Ruwa Road. “On receiving the information, we quickly dispatched our personnel and vehicle to the scene of the incident to rescue the victims. “A 25-year old man, Adamu Salisu lost his life in the fire and the corpse was conveyed to the Murtala Muhammed Specia...
Bauchi assemblyman donates land for cemetery extension
A member representing Kirfi constituency in the Bauchi House of Assembly, Abdulkadir Dewu (PDP), on Tuesday donated a piece of land to his constituents for the expansion of their graveyard. He also presented five new vehicles to party loyalists. The lawmaker said the donation of one hectare land to Guyama village was timely. He said his decision to donate the plot of land was informed by the pressing need to expand the current graveyard in the area, which had almost filled up and lacked space for burial. On the vehicles, Dewu said the gesture was done in recognition of the loyalty and commitment of the beneficiaries to the party. Private school teachers seek interest-free loan from government
The National Association of Private School Teachers (NAPST) has urged the Nigerian government to provide its members interest-free loans repayable gradually from when schools resume. The association said this is.to cushion the effect of COVID-19 on private school teachers in the country. NAPST, which is the umbrella body and voice of private school teachers in the country, said many of its members have turned to beggars for not being paid since the closure of schools over four months ago. Senator Ngige: Suspended NSITF chief awarded N4.448 billion contracts in one day
The Minister for Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, on Tuesday, shocked the members of the House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee investigating the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) when he alleged that the suspended MD awarded about 332 different contracts worth about N4.448 billion in one day. Senator Ngige who appeared on the second day of the investigative hearing being Chaired by Hon Miriam Onuoha further revealed that the controversial contracts were awarded just two days after he left office as Minister in 2019. NIPOST issues new guidelines for courier services
The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) has issued new guidelines for courier and logistics services. In a statement on Tuesday, Frankin Alao, general manager, corporate communications, said Isa Pantami, minister of communications and digital economy, has approved the new guidelines. According to the statement, the new regulation was issued to replace the one which has been in existence since 2001. It added that the development was made in a bid to enhance the operations of courier services while giving special consideration to small & medium enterprises (SMEs).
